I believe my wife cleaned the screen with something, and now on the lower right hand side it looks like there is a long smudge mark. I tried to get off but no luck. I turned the tv off and ran a flashlight over the screen and I can see the smudge as it is discolored, so that leads me to believe that it is a problem with the screen itself. What can I do?

Re: Toshiba 46HM95 Screen?
Can you feel if the surface is rough has it been cleaned with an abrasive cloth like a scouring cloth used for dishes as this will scratch the surface of the screen try getting a good polish spray on but dont spray to much on and use a soft cloth ideally a proper duster cloth see if they polish out if not the the screen surface has been scratched this can be polished out but you will need to get a pro to do this as doing it your self could ruin the telly permanenty as this is a delicate job to do hopefully you should polish these marks off but if not i would get somebody out to look at the telly to get the scratches polished out of the screen this should not cost to much but will save the frustration of watching a smuged screen the only thing you can do yourself is try polishing the screen properly in case she cleaned it and the cleaning product is still on screen if not you will need to get the screen profesionally polished goto a tv repair shop and these should tell you who to call hope this is some help to you but their isnt much you can do yourself

I bought a used 46hm95 but it had a greenish "band" that streched from the upper right corner to the lower left corner. It was only noticeable on a white or light colored background, which is why I overlooked it when I tested out the TV.
I took out the bulb and shined a flashlight into the color wheel. I could see a fingerprint smudge on it. I took off the lower rear plastic panel. the rear is split into two section (the light engine is on the right. You'll have to unscrew a metal guard (three scerws), then disconnect the wires coming from the left section, and then unscrew the plastic guard that protects the lens. Then unscrew the light engine (two screws) and slide it out carefully (you don't have to take it completely out, just far enough to reach the screws to the color wheel covers). There are two covers protecting the color wheel, one plastic and one metal. Unscrew the plastic cover first than the four screws to the metal cover. I left the color wheel in place while I cleaned it with a microfiber cloth. I did pull the glass square in front of the color wheel and wiped that down too.
I put everything back together, and now the picture is perfect.
Things to remember are:
*Keep track of the screws and where they belong, as you remove them so you'll remember where they go when it's time to put things back together.
*Mark the wire connectors from any wire you disconnect in case you forget where they go.
*Be gentle with the color wheel and the glass square because they are fragile.
If they are grease marks you can use a warm water a soft cloth like a t-shirt and little dish washing liquid. Gentley wipe the area only stroking down or up--- NEVER SIDE TO SIDE---. Have a dry cloth ready if you drip water down the screen. Now if those are scuff marks, your done, they cannot be removed. They are like the old record albums with the grooves, once the grooves get distorted that's it. Good luck.
