Thanks much. I was afraid I'd have to buy a newer version which I didn't want to do. Version 7 works great for me. Your fix was right on. Thanx!

I have installed my Quickverse 7 on my new vista laptop and get the error 'Failed to register the component "QVEDIT.OCX". Make sure the file is in the program director. I checked and it is?  Has anyone solved this roblem?

I couldn't get this fix to work - tried with and without "Run as administrator" (with it set, it seemed to not find MSVCRT4.dll). Any other suggestions? It sounds like some people got it to install without the backwards compatibility switch set - I can't get it to install as it crashes during the setup of menus and shortcuts. This is on Vista Home Premium.

I tried the following and it works. I had several bad installs and this works. My guess is that the first steps are not necessary, but they won't hurt.

1. Insert the first CD and explore to find the autorun file. Right click and choose properties, and run it in compatability mode with Windows 98.

2. Right click again on the autorun file and choose to run it as administrator.

3. Follow all the regular steps for installation.

4. On the new shortcut, right click and choose properties, run in compatability mode with Windows 98.

5. Finally, right click on the shortcut icon and choose to run the file as administrator.

Good luck. It is a wonderful software I have had for ten years and used on a half dozen computers.

I have QuickVerse 7.0 Deluxe and could not get it to install on my Vista Laptop. I made a file in My Documents folder and then took each disc and installed the first disc and then took the disc and opened up the files and added the whole disc by copy and paste to the folder. I then did the same for the rest of the disc's and it now is working. So if nothing else works try that.

Can I install Quickverse 7.0 on Windows 7?

Locate the setup file for QuickVerse. Right click on the file and choose 'Properties'. On the 'Compatability' tab, click the check box next to 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and choose 'Windows XP Service Pack 3'.

After QuickVerse is installed, you may have to perform the above steps for the application file as well.

Want to install Quick verse 7 on Vista

the Quick verse 7 was made only for 95 98 2000 and XP but you can try this method on how to install the QV 7 on winXP sp3

"Install QuickVerse Essentials version 7 on WinXP w/sp3

Place the QuickVerse version 7 Essentials CD into optical drive & close tray. This begins the auto run / install process. (Please do not remove CD until right at the end!)

Installation menus appear. Accept the defaults and choose “Typical Installation” (85Mb)

Message box appears at the end of the installation: “QuickVerse installation has encountered a problem and needs to close” Choose “Don’t Send” The installation program exits.

Navigate to: Start Button / All Programs / Parsons / QuickVerse 7 / (from drop down list) find “QuickVerse 7.0” and right click on it. Select “Send To Desktop”

Click on the new QuickVerse 7.0 desktop icon to run the program.

Dialog Box appears, “The librarian datafile library.mdb not found etc…” Select “New” / "Open Book" dialog box appears click on “Close”

Now with QuickVerse 7.0 running go to File / Add Books. “Registration Guide – Introduction” box appears. Choose “Next” The path to the new collection to register should identify the optical drive (with the QuickVerse CD already inserted) Choose “Next”, “Next” and “Finish” ("Registering STEP Books" msg box appears)

Customize Option: select “No” (default) then “OK”

Go to File / Library management. “Library Management – Maintenance” box appears
The Left Hand (LH) pane shows:
Default Drive
QuickVerse Essentials

Highlight QV Essentials in the LH pane. The RH pane shows all the books present on the CD. I chose to install only the NRSV w/Apocrypha book. Drag and drop this book to the LH pane i.e. Default Drive.

“Transferring Book Files” msg box appears whilst the book is being copied from the CD to the hd.

Close the dialog, exit the program, remove the CD and you’re away…"

hope this helps./

Quickverse 5.0

I had the same problem [Quickverse 7 on a Vista OS] but my fix was a little longer. On my right click on the icon I didn't get a Compaibility tab. I went down to "properties" then in properties the tab for compatibility shows up. Click on "Run this program as an administrator." This worked fine for me. And this site rocks with so much great information - thanks everyone for your input and for sharing!
