Hi,
your HDD is either not connected properly or the connector is gone opposite side, please check it and correct, if the error code is showing again go to menu, manage media, then format disk

Buffer over flow movi recording time

The error description is not very precise. Anyway:
You should check the Harddisk for Filesystem errors/defective blocks. Don't know if the Camcorder has a built-in function for this. It could also help to delete all data and to reformat the drive.

Otherwise you may need to replace the harddrive (While you are at it, you could put the drive into an external USB cage and check it with your computer). Sounds like a complicated task.

Format the hard drive, if you still get that message the drive is broken and needs to be replaced by a professional.

Possible there are errrors in the memory. transfer the recorded files and then format the drive. If not connect to the PC after downloading the software and check for errors. If not there are errors in the drive.

Windows XP. connect DCR-SR68E. XP asks for driver. and fail install

These handycams are newer models packed with technology. While windows XP is an old windows and would not have its driver by default. If you have got a Disk with the Cam, insert that into the Drive and try to install driver from there. If you haven't, then you will first have to remove the defaulted driver and then download a new driver to run with it.
To uninstall the defaulted driver follow the steps:
  • Click on Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Double click on Device Manager
There you will see a yellow question mark for the driver of the cam coder. Right click on it and click in install. Then try connecting the Camera again and installing the driver. It if doesn't work, let the windows search in online for you. If it still doesn't work, try to find the driver for the camera on the Sony's site for your particular Cam.

SONY DCR-SR42 ACCESS RED LIGHT ON I bought a SONY DCR-SR42 from eBay in mint condition, I thought I could shoot on PRO Duo memory stick but I discovered you can only use it for photo and not for video so I looked for the USB cable to connect the internal HDD to my computer. At the moment I connected the camera, the LCD and the same camera turned off and even if I disconnected it, it won't turn on. I had to unplug the battery and the cable, I put back the battery and switched on the camera: a message appears on the screen just after the normal starting operation of "recover data", the message is "cannot recover data". The red light at the back of the camera with the ACCESS sign is always turned on, I tried to navigate the menus in every kind of way to access the hdd without succeeding, also tried to format it from the camera, also didn't work. I bought and replaced the HDD and the same error it's shown, I'm not able to format it or anything else and the same thing it's happening when I connect it to my computer to try access the disk and format it other ways. I discovered it' a kind of error, the E:31:00 as it appears flashing on the LCD, I red about this error on a blog called "videorecovery"(cannot post link) and I practically tried everything. I'm desperate about finding a solution to this problem but after buying the cable and a second not functioning HDD I wanna be sure of being effective so if anyone knows how I could solve this problem I'd really appreciate it.
