You need to used Disk Management, goto Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management> Disk Management. Select volume/drive, if you found drive doesn't yet assign a drive letter, you need to assigned it by right click at the highlighted drive then assign drive letter then apply.

Finally, you will just use double click or right click explore inorder you to view the data inside your harddrive.

Please rate me SOLVED!

Diazphi, how can you recomend this solution when WesternDigital (the big mama of the monopols) doesn't provide an unified driver for plug-play recognition (plug&pray) and then the driver couldn't be apropiate installed when connecting the device to the respective port?. I've the same problem and no way to view trough the administrative tools because it doesn't registered in windows devices (It's no logic). At your position, and if you know how can be combined the files trough the windows directories in order to install manually the XP drivers and create the .inf additional file,so that's the point for us and then I'll greatly apreciate as well. The correct lead should be Y shaped and two of the limbs plug into two USB sockets on the PC, the third lead has a small jack which goes into the OneTouch. It should light up if it is getting power from the USB and there should be an icon showing for it in My Computer.

You have what is call a USB POWER Y ADAPTER: this is designed to provide extra current to your USB HDD drive from a second PC USB port. Plug the end with two USB connectors to your PC/LAPTOP and the single-ended plug to your drive.
Hope it helps! Let me know how you go.

My usb ports are limited to 500mA each one and the WD external HD needs at least 1000mA. How can I solve that?

You might need to install a new USB card, one with 1000 mA, to provide the power necesary for your WD external drive. Check the WD manual to see whether there is a way to use two USB ports when jumpering them to see if you can provide the power yourself.
Also check the WD web site.

External USB Hard Disk is 120GB is not dected in winxp pc.

There are two possibilities:

The Mybook USB/ATA controller board is faulty.
In this case you can simply take apart the enclosure and mount the disk into a new enclosure. WD Mybooks are SATA, but double check the hard disk connector to ensure.

The hard disk inside is faulty.
In this case repair may be expensive. You need to locate a data recovery facility with a 'clean room' , the cost is usually more than $800.

If this happened after a power surge, then the problem is most likely a faulty controller board.

If instead you have dropped the hard disk it is possible an hard drive failure, in that case repair will be expensive.

A replacement enclosure will stfrom art about $20 on Ebay or Amazon, and must not necessarily be WD .
Check if your disk is Sata or PATA (IDE) before buying the enclosure.

Hi,My Transcend T Sonic 840 digital Media Player is not detecting the USB cable.

If the device is not identified,
you insert the driver CD and install the driver.
Now unplug and plug in the USB cable.
Now your device will be identified and will be connected to the computer.

Cheers...!!!

Cannot see WD 120 GB in my Computer

Sounds like the USB interface is working, but the physical drive is not. Remove the drive from it's external case, and try a different hard drive. If that works, your drive is the problem. If it still doesn't work, the USB to IDE interface is the issue.

Try mounting the original IDE drive internally, and see if you can read it there. If not, you'll need to send it to a data recovery center.

I have the 80GB WD passport and it suddenly stopped working one day.  The unit lights up but nothing else.  Finally I cracked the case open and found, as I suspected, that the drive is simply a SATA laptop drive with a SATA-to-USB conversion card built in.  I suspected that the card was **** so I disconnected it and used a USB hard drive adapter (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=3770&name=USB_Hard_Drive_Adapter) and I can read/write to the drive just fine.  Best part is that the adapter I use has its own power supply so I'm not pulling juice through the USB cable for a SATA drive.
Even though mine "works" again I don't recommend these drives to anyone.  They're just not sturdy enough or well designed.
