SOURCE: powermate pm0545212.02 wont generate

The exciter coil can be checked with an ohm meter. It will read fairly low ohms (probably under 100). There are diodes also. You can check them with an ohm meter too. They should read in one direction only. The red lead on the meter is + and that will conduct through the diode when your on the anode. When you reverse the leads of the meter, it should read infinite or OL.

E6 Display on the control unit

You posted question under Steamist:

Sample Steamist manual says:
"Error messages E4, E5 and E6 indicate a communication problem with the steam generator. If this error occurs, check both ends of the control cable for clean, dry and secure connections.
Dirty contacts can be cleaned with alcohol and a cotton swab or a toothbrush. This can also happen if the control is not sealed and the cable connections get wet."

Error codes change as technology changes, and sample manual may not include your model:

Do I need to install a water softner before installing sm-79

you should not have to, but if the steamist is not gernerating the right amount of steam then you should put a sofftner on. you will be able to tell because it might have a hard time producing steam, but don't jump the gun right away.

My SM11 model Steamist was installed above our shower/steam room. It is 2 years old. While in use recently, it made a loud sound like a low-pitch popping sound or low boom. Imagine somebody inside a...

The heating elements had burned up in the unit therefor creating a dead short on that circuit. Main breakers on homes and buildings are VERY sensitive and will sometimes trip before the smaller branch cicuit breakers will . So the popping you heard was the heating elements breaking down inside the unit it can be some what noisy.

No steam is coming out of the outlet in the steam room, but alot of water comes out of it

Check the breakers that feed power to the unit--turn off, then on. If no help, remove power from the unit and measure the resistance of the heating element--it should measure somewhere around 20 to 30 ohms, but not infinity. Hope this helps!

Our Steamist steam shower is probably a few years

That is a main problem with the analog systems. Just not reliable as the new digital systems. To my best knowledge there is only one manufacturer making the 100% digital steam generators.
