Yes you probably did. First question: Why did you replace thermostat? (This will give us a better clue as to what is actually wrong since thermostat is rarely the problem.) You'll have to give us more info. What brand and model thermostat, furnace and ac do you have. How many conductors (wires) are at thermostat location? And what color are they? Also make sure that the thermostat is set to either gas electric or heat pump. Model numbers will tell us. Another possibility is that there's a short in your wiring.

You need to find out if the problem is in the T-stat, T-stat wire or in the furnace you can do this in a few easy steps

 

Step 1- Unwire the low voltage from the furnace. Then turn the power back on and see if the blower comes on if it does then the problem is in the furnace and you will need to troubleshoot the furnace (see bottom of page for troubleshooting furnace) if it does not then proceed to step 2

 

Step 2- Wire the low voltage back up to the furnace (follow the wiring diagram below). And unwire the T-stat, make sure that no wires are touching each other, then turn the power back on to the furnace, if the blower starts then you have a short in the T-stat wire and you will need to pull a new wire. If it does not then proceed to step 3

 

Step 3- Turn the power back off at the furnace and wire the T-stat back up (follow the wiring diagram below). Turn the T-stat to auto heat 90 if the heat does not start but the blower just runs then you need to replace the T-stat.

What brand of A/C is it? Are you looking for the thermostat wiring? Different Brands use different wiring, but the usual is as follows:
R terminal at furnace is 24 volt Hot
W is the control for the heating cycle
G is used to start the furnace blower
Y is used to start the outdoor A/C
B or X depending on Brand is the 24 volt common

Yellow and B or blue is the other wire that goes to the outdoor unit
If you want more info, I need Brand, and type of unit, gas furnace and A/C, electric furnace and A/C, or is it a heat pump for the outdoor unit?

Usually the older GE's are straight forward and any generic wire diagram will help you out. If its newer and a Trane made unit try A Trane dealer.

NORDYNE , GOODMAN, AND NUTONE ARE ALL BUILT BY SAME MFG SO IF YOU TRY ALL THESE MAYBE YOU CAN FIND THE HELP YOU NEED

why did the wiring burn?Id have the heat exchanger inspected before rewiring.better to be safe.
