Has started randomly shutting off. Also...Have to rep lug in at wall to make it come on. Picture is great for the short time tv stays on

Probably the clock and/or control board could be failing at random. The erratic oven start-up could present a safety hazard.

It depends on what is causing the problem. How good of a deal are you getting?

we had a SONY Rear projection and we had that problem turned out to be a bad fan and caused the main control board to fail thus the same problem contact the company and see what the warranty covers

Sounds like you have a bad picture tube. More than likely the CRT could be shorted, which would cause the set to shut down.
My first advise would be to power up the set with an isolation transformer with the voltage about 60% approx. 72 Volts AC, and monitor what happens when you increase the voltage slowly.
If the set remains on at 60 -70 %, then when increased to 90 - 100% it shuts down, you have something drawing too much current ( which could be the CRT )

Sounds like you have a problem with the crank sensor.They can have an intermitant fault.like an open curcuit Try changing the sensor.good luck hope that was helpfull.

Check to see how many times it blinks when turning off and then look for the codes for Sony tv blinks. this will tell you what's wrong. This set is notorious for Shorted tubes.

bright red with lines left to right? would be shorted crt. shutting off would be normal due to high beam current.

I suspect you may have a short in the horizontal deflection circuits or High Voltage transformer. If the set had a "great" picture, it may be worth fixing providing you aren't planning to upgrade to a HDTV anytime soon, otherwise I would use this excuse to start looking for a new set. Worst case I can envision with this set would be one of the picture tubes having a Short, keeping the set from turning on. That would make it unreparable.

From all the fourm searching i have come up wit the same problem and the same answer you need to wither replace the power supply board or get a tech out to replace it or you can resodder the thing or get a tech to do that for ya hope it helps.
