I have a hp pavilion laptop that got strike by lightning and now does not want to start up- dead- what should i do?

Call your insurance company and put in a claim.
If it is under warranty call HP.
All bets are off after a lightning strike

Most likely something beyond the power supply has been damaged by the lightning strike and will have to be repaired by a service center.

Ethernet port not working after a lightning strike? Then I suggest obtaining an inexpensive Ethernet adapter card, and installing it.

No reset for that processsor.. ALL Surge protectors are not guaranted for lightning strikes. Does she know if lightning hit the line that services her home?

I just had this problem with my HP Pavilion dv9005us Notebook PC, and the problem is one of two things (that I know).

1. Your'e Laptop's battery is completely empty, and needs to be plugged in to charge for an hour or two
2. Or your laptop cord is broken, or isn't working properly.

For me, it was the secon problem. I went online searching for answers as to where I could buy a new cord for my Laptop. My previous one was universal, as the one that came with the notbook was chewed by my puppy. So Staples Canada, (or US) and Futureshop where the only places I could but this cord. They had the laptops on one wall, and the cords underneath them. In total, I paid $112.00, $89.99 plus tax, and $10 for an extended 2 year unlimited warranty. It sucked forking out the money, but I knew that I could trust the HP brand, and now have a working laptop.

A lightening strike!!!!!! The power surge from a strike could have blown the computer's motherboard and processor. Did you have any surge protection and was the computer on at the time? chances are the computers fried.
There is one last thing you can do, that is remove the side panel from the desktop so you can see the motherboard, you will see a battery like this >>. Near to the battery you will see a plastic "jumper" this will reset the cmos if you move it to the other position, turn the pc on, if nothing happens the cmos has been cleared, put the jumper back in its original position and start the computer again, if you still get nothing them some if not all the components inside the computer has been fried.

There is a high probability that your laptop has been fried, especially if it was plugged into the mains at the time of the lightning strike.
A lightning strike could damage many components and even if you could get it fixed (most likely require a motherboard replacement) there are no guarentees that some other component won't fail in the future.
If it was me, I would put my money towards a new laptop and get a surge/lightning protection power board and disconnect the laptop from the main during a lightning storm.
