Continuous c5280 "carriage jam" error message

If you already followed these instructions, the last thing to do is to service the printer. I don't know of any self-fix options for this printer. It's worth validating that you've already completed these steps as described.

Carriage jam, but there is no paper or anything there.

A carriage jam isn't necessarily caused by a paper jam. Have you tried all of these steps?

Carriage jam

Did you try shutting it off, unplugging it from the wall and your computer for at least 1 minute then restarting it ?

My HP photosmart c5280 keeps saying there is a carriage jam. what is this?

Lift the printer cover. undo the 2 screws (torx head). remove the right hand end of the printer casing.

You will see a blavck plastic moulding with a couple of gears (it controls the cartridge cleaning). This is the cause of your jam - it is out of sync. Turn the machine on and watch what happens with this moulding you will see what I mean by out of sync and it can just be gently pushed back into alignment. Once it is ok turn the unit off and then on again and your jam should be cleared. Put it back together again and print away.

HP Photosmart c5280

Make sure to check all the way to the right and left inside. I ussually find paper loose in either of those ends. Then check your encoder strip which is the plastic strip that the carriage slides on. This may be dirty causing this issue. Use a soft paper towel and alcohol. Windex is okay to but may leave streaks on it and give same issue.
