Unfortuantly the pro-82 is not a trunked scanner, it's only a vhf/uhf scanner and cannot pickup trunked systems. You need to replace it with atleast a pro-95 to pick up trunked systems. If you need your manual for the pro-82 follow this link.

The BR330T is an analog only scanner. Prince William County's system is 800 MHz digital, which your scanner cannot receive. You can receive the fire department simulcast of "5A" (their fire dispatch channel) on 154.325 in analog mode.

I Havel a pro-95 scanner and I have frequencies programmed into banks 1 thru 6 and the scanner isn't scanning banks 2 thru 6

Make sure the banks are enabled and the frequencies in the banks aren't locked out. If you are scanning trunked systems make sure the control channels are set up properly.

Keep in mind you cannot scan digital systems with this scanner, only analog systems and frequencies.

Need instuctions on how to program hand held scanner

Detailed programming instructions are in the factory manual which you can download and print, at no cost, here:

You may also want to visit www.RadioReference.com for a comprehensive database of frequencies and trunking systems in use in your area, and a lot of other useful scanning information - including programming software that will let you load trunking systems without spending hours punching keys.

I have a uniden bearcat scanner and cant pick up my local police dept. I put the frequency in and still dont hear anything. I have a bc145xl 16 channel scanning radio and want to know if its compatible...

If you programmed the correct frequency, you should be getting reception. Check www.RadioReference.com to verify the frequency. Otherwise, you may be too far from the transmitter to receive signals. Try your scanner in other locations, check your antenna, and try receiving the PD on another scanner.

The MARCS - Ohio Multi-Agency Radio Communications system - is a Motorola Type II SmartZone Omnilink Trunking system that utilizes APCO-25 digital transmissions. Your BC145XL is not compatible with trunking or digital systems. In order to follow the MARCS you will need one of the following scanners:
GRE PSR-500, PSR-600
Radio Shack PRO-106, PRO-197, PRO-96, PRO-2096
Uniden BC250D, BC785D, BC296D, BC796D, BCD396T, BCD396T, BCD996T, BCD996XT, or the brand new HomePatrol-1

How do I program it for triple truncking?

There is no such thing as "dual trunking" or "triple trunking." Such terms are used by manufacturers to indicate the number of trunking systems that a scanner is capable of monitoring. The PRO-95 is designated as a Dual Trunk-Tracking scanner because it is capable of monitoring both Motorola and EDACS systems. Programming a trunking system in to a scanner is a detailed process that requires a bit of research.

For details on active trunking systems in your area, and a lot of other useful scanning information, visit:

www.RadioReference.com

Once you have the system information you can follow the programming steps outlined in your scanner's operating instructions. If you don't already have the manual, you can download and print it here:

How to program a radio shack pro 163 police scanner

The 163 is a trunking scanner, so programming instructions are long and detailed, and they vary for each type of trunking system. Programming instructions are best explained in the factory operating manual. If you don't already have it, you can download/print the manual here:

http://www.scancat.com/OnLineHelp/OEM_Radio_Owners_Manuals/PRO-163-164-OWNERS%20MANUAL_2000164_PM_EN.pdf

You may also want to join a users group for the 163. Check Yahoo or just Google PRO-163.

For a comprehensive database of active frequencies and systems in your area, visit:

www.RadioReference.com

The site also has information that explains the workings of trunking systems, links to users groups, and a lot of other useful scanning information.

How to program diginal trucking on a radio shack pro 197 diginal scanner

Digital trunking systems require detailed programming steps, and those steps vary according to the type of system you need to program. The manual for your scanner provides step-by-step instructions for each system type, and I recommend that you familiarize yourself with its contents. If you don't have the manual, you can download and print it here:

http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/ProductManuals/2000197_PM_EN.pdf

If the information in the manual seems overwhelming, you might want to join a user group (check Yahoo Groups and RadioReference.com) or consider using available programming software programs.

What Type Of Scanner Do I Need?

Well, the above answer is somewhat correct, but could use a little clarification.

A radio that transmits in a P25 format is digital. Digital transmissions can be trunked, but don't have to be (as is the case here). In the case of scanners, every major brand scanner out there that works on digital transmissions will decode trunked of conventional digital and analog transmissions.

The current digital models run anywhere from $399 to $599. Radio Shack has 2 newer models out that will do digital...the PRO-106 (handheld) and the PRO-197 (base/mobile). These have been on sale recently for $399. Uniden also makes digital trunking scanners..the latest models being the 396 (portable) and the 996 (base/mobile). While the 996 has the capability to be used with a GPS in a mobile setting, this feature isn't really worth the added cost, especially when compared to the feature rich PRO-197.

There are older model digital scanners, such as the Radio Shack PRO-96, PRO-2096 and the Uniden 250D and 796D. While these receive digital transmissions, the newer scanners have upgraded digital decoding algorithms that provide better audio quality and intelligibility. Also, the older scanners may not be able to decode the 700 MHz public safety band, which is becoming increasingly more popular since the 800 MHz band is quickly filling up.

One word of caution...be sure that the agency you are trying to monitor is not using encrypted transmissions. If you don't know...look up the system on radioreference.com. Channels that are encrypted usually have an "E" designation under the "mode" column. These transmissions CANNOT be decoded by any of the scanners currently on the market, even if you do have the encryption key.

I hope this helps you with your buying choices. Good luck!
