That simply means that the battery is dead. It lights up thru USB port as the port has charging facility. But battery being dead does not hold the charge. Change it.
FIRST OF ALL, NEVER EVER PLUG IT INTO THE COMPUTER WHILE ITS ON. ALWAYS TURN THE PHONE OFF BEFORE HAND. AS FAR AS YOUR COMPUTER NOT RECOGNIZING THE USB CABLE, IT MAY ACTUALLY BE YOUR COMPUTER. AFTER ALL IF IT WAS THE CABLE, YOUR PHONE WOULDN'T CHARGE SINCE IT IS THE SAME CABLE FOR CHARGING AND USB CONNECTIONS. MY COMPUTER HAS HAD TROUBLE SEVERAL TIMES WHEN PLUGGING IN NEW OR DIFFERENT DEVICES INTO THE PORT. TO CHECK THE USB PORT ON YOUR COMPUTER.... GO TO CONTROL PANEL, THEN DEVICE MANAGER. DOUBLE CLICK UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS. IF ANY OF THEM ARENT WORKING PROPERLY THERE WILL BE A YELLOW TRIANGLE WITH AN EXCLAMTION POINT BESIDE THE UNFUNCTIONING USB. IF IT IS NOT FUNCTIONING YOU WILL HAVE TO UPDATE THE DRIVER. IF YOUR PORTS, DRIVERS ETC DONT SHOW THE YELLOW TRIANGLE, THEY ARE WORKING. TRY PLUGGING THE PHONE INTO A DIFFERENT PORT UNTIL YOU FIND ONE THAT WILL ACCEPT IT. I HAVE A LAPTOP AND MY PHONE ISNT RECOGNIZED IN THE SAME USB PORT (ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE COMPUTER) THAT I USE FOR MY PRINTER. I USE A DIFFERENT PORT FOR MY CELL PHONE. IF YOUR COMPUTER IS OLDER , THE USB PORT MAY NOT BE HIGH SPEED. OLDER COMPUTERS HAVE USB PORTS WITH A SPEED OF 1x OR A MIX OF PORTS WITH 1x AND 2.O (2.0 IS HIGHSPEED 1x IS NOT). I HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
The error message you are talking about occurs when a device tries to draw more power from the USB port then the port can provide,
Make sure you are connecting the MP3 player directly to a USB port on the computer or a USB hub that has an independent power source (one that you plug into an electrical outlet). If you are plugging your MP3 player into a USB keyboard or a non-powered hub the port may not have enough ower to charge it.
I am assuming tha tthe Zen was working before? And that you are sing the exact same USB port and cord that you were using to charge the item previously? If so, then what you are experiencing might be a sign that the unit has failed and is in need of repair.
I had this issue also. When I got it out of the box, it had maybe 30 minutes of playtime without a charge before the battery went low. I used the USB it came with and found plugging it into my laptop AND desktop does absolutely nothing; even though the magellangps.com states the USB can be used as a charger on the PC.
It's been less than 8 hours since I've had it, and I have not gotten a chance to use the car adapter to charge it... I have a DC/AC unit inside my house which I am using to charge the unit and it works fine (incase you dont know what a DC/AC adapter is; its pretty much a lighter adapter that plugs into the wall).
MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT -
With my migraine starter experience with charging and powering on; I have read on 100's of Magellan 3250 reviews that cold tempratures cause these issues.
Other possible causes:
Battery is 100% dead = leave it in your car charging (HIDE UNDER THE SEAT!)
If the USB port plugged in charging in the car; if it is still not working, make sure that the FM part is also plugged in. I found that my GPS does not charge with just the USB end plugged... At least for me, it will only charge with BOTH ports plugged....
I hoped my novel helped... If it didn't; return your Magellan, and buy a GARMIN GPS. I have a Garmin that I bought for my hubby, and 2 years later, has never once experienced any issues.
