I charge it a few hours and next day it plays for 2 or 3 minutes and then shuts off. Do I need to charge it overnight every night or is it defective?
I looked up reviews and a lot of people are complaining about no battery life they charge it overnight and it might last 4-5 hours and they cant't get it to charge on a laptop I suggest plug it into a USB wall plug if you have one and see if that gives it more life

I'm afraid I have bad news. Your battery has seen better days. A new one on Ebay is about $15 shipping included last time I looked.
