SOURCE: truck wont start

Check your crank sensor, it bolts to the block on right rear and goes down into the trans bellhousing . You might have got the wire pinched between the trans and the engine.

SOURCE: Code po101, hard start when hot (have to hold W.O.T. to start) & stumbles on accelertion. Changed MASS sensor, no help.

Basically this means that there is a problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit. The PCM detects that the actual MAF sensor frequency signal is not within a predetermined range of the calculated MAF value for more than 4.0 seconds.  I would try cleaning out your MAF sensor with some carb cleaner and reseting the check engine light to see if it comes back on.  If it does, get back on here and let us know and we will walk you through some other things you can try.  Cleaning it out will be the easiest/cheapest thing for you to try right now.  Good luck.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.

SOURCE: we changed spark plugs &

Here is the firing order diagram for the 5.0 liter (305), 5.7 liter (350) and the 7.4 liter (454) V-8 engines (note position of locking latches/screws between the 3 and 6 and the 1 and 2 terminals on the distributor cap). Let me know if you need the 4.3 liter V-6 engine diagram (hopefully not in a 2500 series truck) or if you require any further assistance.

SOURCE: 1997 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 OHV starts up runs good

it has an ignition control module that takes the place of distributor, cap, and rotor. it is located under the ignition coils the spark plug wires go to and is held in place by the same retaining bolts that secure the two coils. it fires the 2 cylinders at a time 1 and 4 and then 2 and 3. the ICM has 2 cable connection recepticals.. also it uses a crankshaft position sensor to know when to fire after you start the motor. it is located to the lower left of the ignition coils and inserts into the crankcase and is held in place by 1 small bolt and has a connector plug to it.

Does the car have plenty of gas in it? Make sure it turns over, it doesn't just click, click, click, and the battery is charged.
First thing 2 do is 2 check & see if the spark plugs are getting and providing spark to the cylinders.Take out a spark plug, connect the spark plug wire to it, hold the metal body part(the part of the plug that the socket fits on) against a solid metal part of the engine and try to start the engine with the key.(Use gloves to hold the plug and don't be scared of the plug, it won't shock U but it may be hot. Look for spark between the middle anode(That's the bottom center part of the plug, the top is the part of the plug that the plug wire attaches to. no insult intended) and the metal piece that is bent over the top of the anode. You will need someone to turn over or try to start the car while you are checking for spark. You should see a blue spark jump between the anode & the metal piece bent over it. You can also see if gas is getting 2 the cylinder by replacing the spark plug, leaving the plug wire disconnected from the plug and turning the engine over again or trying to start it. Take the plug out again and see if the bottom of the plug is wet & smells like gas. After these steps you have just checked 2 of the 4 things any internal combustion engine needs to start, SPARK & FUEL. The other 2 things are air in and air out, INTAKE & EXHAUST. You'll probably find the problem & if it is intake or exhaust you won't have a chance fixing it yourself anyways. Once U find out that it's not getting either SPARK or FUEL call your choice of auto parts stores, tell them what U found and ask them what they think. At least they will think you know a little about engines and they will talk to you. Good luck.

Trouble shooting procedure glow plugs '93 VW Golf 1.9 diesel

What you need to do is make sure the key is off, remove glow plugs, hook a set of jumper leads to your battry, put the negative lead around the threaded part of the plug, hold the + jumper lead to the top of the plug where the power rail bolts on. DO NOT TOUCH glow plugs as they will heat up hot & fast. If the light comes on 6 - 8 sec thats how long you need to hold the power on. The tip of the plug should be nice & red hot in this time. Repeat for all plugs & see the diffrence If more than 2 are dead (no red heat) or noticably slower than the others It will be very difficult to start & the plugs should be replaced. AGAIN carefull not to get burned.

How can I check the starter. the battery last for one day, new battery every night I have to disconected or cable jump in the morning. all the lights are out.

This sounds more like a radio or an amp is draining the battery. When the starter goes bad it will just not turn or turn real slow. But there are wires on the starter that goes to the alternator. Check your battery, take it to a local parts store and have them read the CCA's. Watch the cables as you hook up the battery. hook up the red (positive) cable first, then watch the ground (black) cable as you make the connection. If you see a spark you have a amp draw. Start by taking the large wire off the alternator, it should be hot from the starter, take that wire loose and then retouch the black cable to the battery looking for the same spark. if it is gone, your alternator has a bad diode and you need a new or rebuilt one. If the spark is still there, start taking out fuses one at the time but put them back as you go, to see if you can find which circuit is causing the battery to go dead. Most cases, it will be the alternator or a stereo system has a bad diode.

My diesel is difficulty to start on cold cold days. it also will have a large amount of ssmoke after cranking

First, for poor starting from cold, you need to check the heater plugs, to do this, remove the wiring to each heater plug, then get a piece of wire/cable and get another person to help, you need to hold one end on the top of the heater plug, where the wire was connected, and get your assistant to flash the other end of your wire on the positive terminal of the battery, now, if there is a spark, then that heater plug is ok, if there is no spark, then that heater plug is faulty and should be replaced, do this to all heater plugs, and replace as necessary. Ideally , if just one is not good, then i would advise to replace all..
As for smoke from start up, all diesels will smoke on initial start up but it should clear when warmed up. However, if you have constant smoke, presumably black smoke, then you should check the air cleaner and hoses first, that the filter is clean and that the hoses are not blocked, split or collapsing when you give a bit of revs to the engine. The next step would be to check the fuel filter,if it has a drain plug, then undo that and see if the fuel is discoloured or you see any debrit coming out, it would be wise to change this , unless it has been changed recently. If you still have smoke, then you need to get the injectors checked, this can only be done by a diesel fuel workshop. Hope this helps

Replaced starter when battery was connected it started sparking and smoking.

Sounds like he may have pinched a wire or hooked it up backwards or has the power wire touching the starter housing.
