SOURCE: How do you change the grease in a D-300 Hobart Mixer?

Depending how old the mixer is they used to use oil,now they use grease.Regardless it sounds like a seal is worn.Where is it leaking from?

SOURCE: Oil leak

instead of putting a gasket on tell him to take out all of the old grease out that is what has broken down and turning into oil causing a leak and if he can repace the seal around the agitator shaft replace the old grease with a high temp bearing grease or a good quality lithium grease

Runs but doesn't turn. Worm gear is not broken.

Something must be broken if the motor is turning and the planetary is not. It will be one of the following, we will start from the first point of contact with the armature
1) Worm gear broken (fuse gear) you say no teeth broken
2) Worm gear not broken but whole unbroken plastic part not gripping aluminium boss
3) Pin through worm gear broken or missing
4) Pin through centre (or bevel) gear broken or missing
5) Pin through small gear in planetary broken or missing
6) Pin through planetary hub centre shaft broken or missing

The most common ones in order of likelihood are, 1, 2, 3 and 6

My motor doesnt seem to go round freely

Does the beater shaft turn when there is no load? (bowl is empty) Or it will not turn at all?

It sounds like you have a stripped gear. Your mixer has a nylon/plastic gear inside the mixer and that is 99% of the time what goes wrong. You will want to open the mixer up and inspect all of the gears, but most likely you will need to replace the worm gear, part number W10112253.

Here at MendingShed.com we sell Genuine KitchenAid parts and the items can be found on our website.

Here is a link to that gear: http://www.mendingshed.com/kawormgear.html

You may also want to replace the grease and gearbox gasket while you have the mixer opened up.

We also have a service manual posted on our website which will aid in taking the mixer apart and putting it back together properly.

Gears are stuck

You need to give us a little more help with this. The "gears are stuck" The first thing that comes to mind is an assumption that you cannot turn the planetary by hand. If that is the case then you have a gear stripped and it has locked up the tower pinion gear or the bevel gear. Both are inexpensive parts and are readily available at any service center or off the internet. With that said you have to determine if you want to fix it your self (you can do it its just time consuming the first time) it will require that you tear down the mixer to it's component parts. you will need to get new gear grease a new gasket and new replacement gears. Then you have to take the mixer apart, remove the old gear grease to get at the worn parts, take the gear housing apart to replace broken parts add new gear grease and gasket and then reassemble, you will more that likely also have to adjust the speed control plate to get the mixer turning at the proper speed again. The gear grease is the kicker, you will have to buy a whole can (30 Oz.) and you will only need 6 Oz to do the re-pack. all parts for the K45SS are available on the internet plus the cost of shipping. You will also need to go to the following site and download your parts list for the mixer, that will give you the proper parts number to order and a schematic to follow along.

next you will need a clear work area where you can layout the pieces of the mixer so that you can create an assembly pattern that will help you remember the way to put it
back together. you will need a non metal hammer a flat head screwdriver a Phillips head screwdriver a drift punch two rolls of paper towels an empty trash can to dump the greasy paper towels about two hours of time and a calm nature. you will have to open the mixer to determine what parts you need, then you will have to order and wait for the parts to arrive and then do the work. Another option is to take or send your mixer to a service center for repair. if there is no center near you you will have to mail it, and the cost for the service center to repair and send back is going to be $150.00 plus, check to see if you have a small appliance repair shop locally it will probably save you $50.00. If both of those are options that you do not like then it is a DIY repair, that is an easy fix but takes time to get it done. check to see if you have a local shop that will sell you the parts that you need. that will eliminate some waiting time. but the first thing is to take the mixer apart and find out what gears are FUBAR. Now all of this is dependent on weather this is a gear problem or an electric problem that is why i opened with you need to help. What happened when you made the decision that the mixer was froze up? did it make noises? did you hear the motor running but the planetary dint turn? (The planetary is where you put the beaters on). did it smoke? does it make any noise when you turn it on Like the motor humms but nothing turns (That is a gear problem) So as you can see we need some help so we can help you. let us know as soon as you can so we can get you back up and baking.

Hobart AE200 gave a little sproing and stopped turning on all gears (electric motor turning fine apparently). I figure ?maybe it's the tufnell cog that's broken, but I can't get the inner plate off to...

The problem you are describing if I follow right I take the grease hole plugs out take the two spanner nuts off the man shaft and the driven shaft stick gear puller jaws into grease hole and put the gear puller onthe center saft and gently raise the top case.

Hobart D300 Mixer: Has no torque and no speed in any gear

You have a gear with broken teeth or one sliding out of place because the brass shims are eaten up. Hobarts have what is called a planetary, round head where the grease caps are, and there are no clutches for this planetary. These units are not made to change gears while unit is running (#1 problem of gear failure) (#2 is overloading the bowl) Hobarts need a really stiff GREASE, not oil. If you decide to take the planetary apart, get all the syrup out and replace with a stiff axel grease. It is a very difficult job replacing a gear & ALL the shims. The round head where the grease caps are can easily be removed to do this.

K-beater is stuck on our Kenwood Chef and we can't remove it

I couldn't remove the K-Beater as when I tried to turn it the whole mechanism turned with it. I couldn't even remove the splashguard! I was going to take it to the Kenwood factory (a few miles from home) but then I thought I'd give it one more go and this is what I did...
  1. Next to where the K-Beater attaches in the middle of the circular plate is a lug with a pointed-shape bolt on the end. Remove this with a spanner and the beater plus gear cog can be removed.
  2. Place some mole grips or wide pliers on a worktop and sit the cogged gear in to it and grip so that it won't turn.
  3. Now you should be able to remove the K-Beater!
Perhaps someone can suggest how to stop it happening again. I haven't attached anything since but will update this post if I have any other helpful tips.

Motor runs but beaters won't turn and gears will not engage or change speed

Most likely there is a broken shaft, seized bearing, or a stripped gear.

The service tech will unassemble everything and replace the necessary warn or broken parts. He will re-assemble everything, check for proper gear lash and bushing clearances, and re-pack new grease.
