Compressor kicks on and runs, fan only hums, flip the fan , runs

Compressor runs ok. fan only hums, when you flip the fan around it starts and runs, fan is easy to turn when no power is on...
I don't see a starting cap on the fan , only on the compressor, I so see a run cap on the fan. any thoughts.

It may be the capacitor or needs oil or bad motor.

When the compressor tries to come on, why does it click and hum, then clicks off?

Two causes for that situation. The compressor has a start relay and a overload mounted on the 3 prongs. When the relay/overload is bad, compressor will kick on, hum, then a click sound. The click is the overload. Or, the compressor is drawing too much power and the compressor is bad. 90% of time it's the relay/overload but you need to check and make sure fan is running by compressor and coils underneath are not clogged up. Poor air flow around compressor can cause overload to go bad.

Fan won't run / won't cool

It may have a faulty compressor relay or overload, best to change both at the same time. It's either that or a bad compressor.

Motor hums but won't kick in

Hi simpsonruth1..
In the back of the compressor motor you will see a fan, remove the plastic cover to get to it..
Once you have the plastic cover removed and the fan exposed, plug the compressor in and spin the fan with your fingers...be quick as the fan could cut your fingers if you do not get them out of the way..
If the compressor starts working, then the start capacitor is bad on the compressor...if it does not run then you have motor troubles, either replace the motor or get it rewound.

Unit runs for about 5 min the cuts off. whats the problem?

Hi!!
It could be many things, the most common are Low R22 refrigerant, bad fan motor, bad compressor. obstructed condenser coil, bad starting relay, bad capacitor. among other things.
To check fan motor, set unit to HI Fan Only setting and let it run for a while, check that fan did not loose speed and it is not getting too hot.
If fan is OK, then turn unit to HI Cool 60-65 degrees and see what happens. Hear if compressor kicked in or if just made a humming noise and stopped. if this happens, replace capacitor.

Refrigerator makes a humming noise, compressor does not kick in. I believe it may be the relay

You need to replace the overload /relay w/capacitor . Pt # 67005560 . This part runs about $30.00 , and easily replaceable . Just plugs onto the side of the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires pluged onto it .
