I opened the lid to check on the clothes. Water was just sitting in it. I closed the lid and there was a little tension and then a "pop" sound. It will do nothing now.

check the lid switch, open and close the lid,you should hear a clicking sound,if not you have a broken lid switch and the washer will sit there full of water
check the lid switch, you could have broke it when you closed the lid.also next time you write send the model number, open the lid,get a screw driver and stick it in the hole on top, that's the lid switch set the timer to spin,or close the lid then open it an inch and close it and open it if you don't hear a clicking sound the lid switch is bad.all the lid switch does is to stop the washer from running with the lid open for safety reasons
check the lid switch, open and close the lid just a little and listen for a clicking sound, every time the lid closes and opens the switch should click, also you can set the timer to spin, open the lid and stick a screw driver into the hole where the strike on the lid would go into, that's the lid switch,if it starts to drain and spin then you'll know the switch is bad,the lid coulld be bad and not do anything and that's why you have to listen for the clicking sound,if it does click and the lid switch is good another thing it could be is that no cold water is entering the washer, when in rinse all that fills into the washer is cold water no matter what setting the water is on,this is to keep the clothes from wrinkling but it sounds like the lid switch
does it drain out the water and spin but the clothes are still wet or is it not draining or spinning?set the timer to spin, open the lid and stick a screw driver into the lid switch hole and see if it spins and drains, also if it doesn't push down and let the switch up,or close the lid down and open it a little do this a few times, you should hear the switch make a clicking sound,if it doesn't click you have a bad lid switch.if the machine is draining and spinning but the clothes are wet,do the same thing with the lid switch and watch it spin with the lid open,is it spinning fast,if not you have a bad transmission and it's not spinning fast enough to remove the water out of the clothes or you could have a kink in the drain hose or something in the pump and it's not draining all the way.let me know what you find and send the model number off of the washer, the number should start with like 110.
sounds like the lid switch is broken, open and close the lid a few times,if you don't hear a clicking sound when the lid closes then the lid switch is broke, you can try sticking a pen or a butter knife in the hole and see if you can get the water out,the part number is 8054980 and it's around 25 bucks, let me know if this is the problem and i'll tell you how to fix it
start with checking the lid switch if you dont hear the click when u open and close the lid replace unit does nothing if lid switch is in op beside let water in
I'm not sure what washer you have but a lot of washers have an additional spin cycle. If you left the lid open, then it would only fill with water then sit until the lid is closed. Try making sure the lid is closed next time you empty it and see if the water is in there the next morning. I hope this helps. Good luck!
the lid is not making proper contact with the lid switch, easy repair.
the lid is held to the maintop with a set of hinges. The left side hinge actually doubles as the lid switch actuator. so youll need to lift the lid, and feel for the opposite end of the hinge assy. when you feel the metal "arm " for lack of better word. youll need to bend it slightly towards the back of machine( usually use a hollow shafted screwdriver) as you bend backward the lid will want to close, so apply a little pressure. Your bending the "arm" to make better contact with the switch which ismountedtothe underside of the main top assembly. Before starting open and close the lid a few times and listen for the "click" of the switch activating. then recheck after bending youll hear a big diff
First check the lid switch. Its a little slot inside the top panel and when the door is closed it has a prong that pushes the switch down when closed. It is a safety feature. If you can find this press the slot with a screwdriver or something and listen for a clicking sound. It is also possible that one of the wires has come off, so that may need to be looked at too. Also check the lid to see if the prong has been broken off. If you have both of these things checking good, then it may be a more complicated issue like power to the wig wag coils, or a timer. We can however eliminate the motor, belt and water pump as these all work. I would put my money on a simple lid switch problem though.
