If the laptop is capable of wifi, you can connect to the internet with that. Depending on your laptop, you should have an icon down in the lower rh corner (looks like a dot with 4 arcs above the dot). With your mouse, place pointer over icon, and click on your right mouse button. In the window that pops up, it will show you available wifi sources you can connect to. Depending on where you are, you may have to enter a password if the wifi source you pick is password protected... "Unsecured" wifi sources, if you double click on it, will typically "connect", and then you should have access to the internet.

Why cant my windows xp share printer w windows 7?

Hi Chris,

Make sure that both Computers are turned ON if you are printing from Win7 through Win xp

Also make sure that the printer is installed on both machines and that the printer sharing is set up, and that both computers are on the same Workgroup.
Also make sure that the Turn On network discovery is activated in windows7 for XP to be able to detect it on the network, and that the File Printer Sharing is also activated, make sure everything in the sharing settings is activated in the network.

I hope that this will help,

I just bought a epc P701 computer and I want to use the internet in another room. I have a laptop with a wireless router hooked up to this one in another room. For the epc I dont know how to get the...

It appears that your notebook has wifi capability. You need to be certain that your network settings are correct. You need to get to your wireless network settings. Follow these directions:

Go to My Network Places, right click on My Network Places to get a menu
Choose Properties on the menu, You will see a new window open
Look for the wireless network connection and right click on the wireless network to get a menu
choose Properties to open another window. Look inside the window for TCP/IP settings.
Click on TCP/IP and choose properties.

Make sure that "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS address Automatically" are both checked so that you are able to connect to your wireless router. That is the usual TCP/IP settings for most home networks.

I hope that this helps.

I want to connect a new HP laptop to my LAN. There is/was a laptop using my internet connection via a router which is still active (router) but the old HP laptop died.

In the control panel network setting, connect using 'connect to a workplace'. Ofcourse with a LAN cable, insert one end of the cable to the pc as well as the other to the router. Put in the usual parameters.

I can't get my Network Adapter to connect to my Local Area Connection on my laptop. It tells me to turn my wireless capability but every time i flick the swith for it to be on it doesn't say it's on.

check the bios of the laptop to make sure the network card is enabled (at the BIOS hardware level)
check the FN + (F#) switch to activate the network adapter. for example, IBM\Lenovo is FN + F5 to activate the bluetooth and network adapter cards. In many cases, these settings are separate from the driver and software settings on the computer itself.

I have a linksys for my computer and labtop my daughter needs a network key to get on her laptop where do i find this number.

I am going to assume that you have a Linksys wireless router connected to your computer.

The network key is set in the router by using it's set-up page. Usually, you type in a 26 character code or a text string that is used to form the key.
After setting up the router, you turn on the laptop, scan for available networks, and select yours. Then you enter the network key, which will be exactly same as that you entered into the router setup.

If you are having trouble connecting from the laptop, I suggest you first try setting up the wireless router to use no encryption, just to make sure the laptop can find the network. Once this has been established, activate the security features.

Your new laptop,

Are you searching for a new wireless network? Then your router doesn't show up on the list of networks?

I can rephrase if need be.
