Remove all the speaker wires.

Power the radio back on and verify it is not the radio at fault.

If it powers up, check the speakers with a Digital Multimeter set to OHMS 20x.

Each speaker should have a resistance of 4 ohms. (or 8 in some cases)

Any variance (+/- .5ohms) means the voicecoil is blown, and replace that speaker.

If it says amp grd you have a shorted speaker, speaker wire, or possible corrosion inside the deck, shorting out the output ic.

When i turn stereo on and there is no sound and AMP GRD comes up. how do i sort this out

The amp needs a ground green wire. Attach it to a metal object with a screw. The wiring harness will have a green wire sometimes with a factory installed ring on it to be able to attach it to a ground

Model-m 255 clarion installed in a pontoon boat. RADIO WAS WORKING JUST FINE, THEN I INSTALLED A (NEW) BATTERY FOR MY BOAT, HOOKED EVERTHING BACK THE SAME WAY. NOW, I HAVE POWER BUT (NO) SOUND...

Disconnect all the speaker leads and then hook one speaker (a new, known to work speaker) up directly to the radio using a short (6"-12") piece of speaker wire. Does that speaker work then?

Why does my radio say amp grd when there is no amp hooked up and it was playing just fine tell now

sounds like you need to check your speakers and/speaker wires to make sure you don't have a short to ground or bad speaker. if those check out, you may have a bad output ic inside of the deck.

Installed and no sound or nothing

Im guessing you have an amplifier if not check the cd player ground " AMP GRD" means amp ground is faulty. In the event that you do have an amplifier check that ground wire as it's most likely the problem.
