SOURCE: philips universal tv remote not working

http://www.remotecodelist.com/remotes/magnavox/Philips-Magnavox_PM525S.pdf
Thisis the user's manual for a Phillips remote control. There is a list ofcodes in it. They should be rather universal. There's also instructionsas to how to program it. I believe that there is a way to program itwithout using the codes.

Programming with Code Search

1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.

2. Press and hold Code Search button until the red indicator stays on. Release the Code Search button.

3. Press and release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blink, then stays lit.

4.Press the Channel Up button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until thedevice could be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit. If you accidentally overshoot the code required, pressthe Channel Down button to backtrack through the library until thedevice changes channel. Pressing Channel Up changes direction toforward again. Press and release the Mute button to install the code.

Hope this helps :)

SOURCE: INSTRUCTIONS NEEDED FOR THE SHARPER IMAGE - JUMBO UNIVERSAL REMOTE

Hello kls1996... programming your remote is rather easy. The easiest way (thanks to The Sharper Image Jumbo Remote being a LEARNING SMART remote) is to do the following:

1 - Point the head of your Sharper Image remote at the head of your Sanyo TV remote (nose to nose so the clear bulbs on each remote are facing each other).

2 - Press the "TV" button on your Sharper Image remote (located in the upper left-hand corner).

3 - Hold the "LEARN" button on your Sharper Image remote (located in the left edge under the volume buttons) until the red light flashes.

4 - Press the key on your Sharper Image remote (e.g. Volume Up or +VOL)... the red light will go solid (indicating that it is waiting for a signal from the other (in your case Sanyo) remote.

5 - Press the key on your other remote (in your case the Sanyo remote) that you want programmed in your new Sharper Image remote... the red light will flash rapidly again.

6 - Repeat step #4 until you have programmed each key.

7 - When done... press the "LEARN" key on your Sharper Image remote. Your Sharper Image remote should be programmed to operate your device (in this case, your Sanyo TV).

NOTE: You can program other devices such as your VCR, DVD, VHS, SAT, CABLE, etc. and not just one device.

SOURCE: Cannot program Dish Universal Remote for Emerson TV

This worked for me. I had to scan down quite a few times but eventually my tv turned off and I set the code with the # button. It may work for you too and save you some money on a UR.

http://www.satellite-tv-planet.com/DishNetworkRemoteControlProgramming.htm
Scan For Device Codes If the code for the device you are programming is not listed in the user manual or on this site, try these steps to scan the remote controls memory for device codes.

1) Turn the power on the device on

2) Select and hold the mode button for which you are programming, such as the TV button, on the remote until you see all the lights of the mode buttons flash. Once you let go, that mode button that you chose should now be blinking. When using the Aux mode button only use the number pad to enter 0 for a second TV, 1 for a second VCR/DVD, 2 for a amplifier, tuner, or cable box. Then press the STAR (*) button.

3) Press the power button on the Dish Network remote control.

4) Repeatedly press the UP or DOWN button on the remote to scan for the correct code (do this slowly so you do not skip over the right code for your device). When the correct code is reached the device will turn off.

5) Press the POUND (#) button to store the code in the Dish Network remote.

6) Press the power button to turn the device back on and try using other buttons on the remote to make sure that they also work. Sometimes the power button will work while others may not.

Would you elaborate further on what you are trying to do? Are you trying to program your universal remote to your DISH Network receiver or something else? I have provided a link with instructions on how to program the universal remote. Since it is not a DISH remote, we can't guarantee the function of that remote. I hope this helps.

How to program philips universal remote

  • Turn on your TV (or other device). You will have to do this manually until you program your Philips remote control.
  • Look for the "Setup" or "Code Search" button on the Philips remote control. Which button your remote has will depend on the exact Philips remote control you are using. This button may be a different color or may be labeled.
  • Hold either the "Setup" or "Code Search" button for about 10 seconds. If your remote has a light, the light should begin blinking. If there is no light, you can just count to 10 and then let go of the button.
  • Press the "TV" button on the remote to program the Philips remote to your television set.
  • Find and press either the "Up" or "Down" channel button on the remote. Continue pressing either button until the television channel changes. This may take several minutes. Once the channel changes, press the "Power" button on the remote to turn off the TV. Your Philips remote will now be programmed to your television

I have a philips universal remote control and I need the code for a philco tv. Joe

Which of the many Philips universal remotes do you have? http://www.urc.philips.com/ lists them all. Then use the remote code finder to look up Philco. For example, the code 2192 is the Philco code for the SRP 4004.

However, the codes built into the remote may not work if the remote is older than the TV (or was programmed within 6 months of the TV's release). There is a time lag for codes going from the manufacturer to the universal remote makers.

    I hope this helps.

Cannot connect second tv to Dish

    Gregg,

If this is a replacement TV I would say you are probably better off with the universal remote if you are not able to bring up the menu using the front buttons on the set. Call me if you like and I will see what solution we can arrive at based on your receiver type and TV.
