For home base station for good range beam ant.
The longer the boom length the more gain you will have.. a 5 or 6 element will give you more gain then a 3 element.. the 3 isnt much more gain then a omni antenna just a larger lobe in one direction.. Look into Amateur Radio antenna books for the correct info.. but the longer the antenna the more gain you will have but also will make the main lobe smaller. and more direct. but if your want a beam thats what you want. POINT to POINT not a circular pattern..

i dont know what AC DC adator your using. you should look into a 12V power supply. or plugging that into a RF canceling power strip, like a monster power strip. TV's that are on or other appliances may cause high noise levels on the CB, make sure your coax is good, your antennas good, and all jumpers are good. its hard to tell with out looking at it, but do a quick once over of the system.... you are using a base antenna right? if not you need to create radials for a mobile you plan on using for a base.
Make sure the connectors on the coax are all on right, this causes problems a lot of the time. sometimes even brand new coax have bad connectors installed.

Buy a magnetic mount CB antenna ($35.00 for a K30 magnet mount cb antenna) and put it on the fridge, or microwave, or a appliance thats heavy in metal (gives good ground) and it'll work fine. A base antenna will be even better though. www.copper.com for antenna's and radios
