On the display board it only comes up as 'dist', most treadmills ive used have kmh or mph infront to indicate the unit of distance. bought second hand so I don't have the manual and cant find the answer online!

No need to take console apart, power up the treadmill, take the safety key out then hold down the start button and the incline down button at the same time then insert the safety key. You'll now be able to toggle between KPH and MPH by using start button

Inspectthe bottom of your console. The calibration switch is in a small hole. Insertthe eraser end of a pencil into the hole and softly push the button. You willsee CL11 on your console after you push this button.
