Against my better judgement, I layed my refridgerator down during transport from one location to another. I waited approx. 12 hours before I plugged it in and it is not cooling properly. Is there...

Hi,

Here is a tip that I wrote on moving refrigerators...if you did not do it this way then you may well have ruined a perfectly good refrigerator.

Moving a Refrigerator What is the best way

If you already have moved it wrong, you can sometimes get it working by plugging it in and unplugging it a number of times with an hour or so in between.

Can a frigidaire be transported long distance laying down? Or must it be in an upright position?

Hi,

You can lay a fridge down if you do it right...this tip will tell you how to do it so that it will work again when you get it moved and set it back up.

I am moving home and would like to know if I can place my whirlpool fridge freezer on its side in the removal van, willthis cause any damage?

No, it won't be harmfull if you be patient when you get it there. When you get the refrigerator set back up make sure that you wait at least a few hours before plugging it back in. This gives the oil in the system time to run back into the compressor before you run it. Have a good time moving I sure am gald that it is not me. It is a lot of work!!

Kenmore top freezer. Bought it from a lady. Only

Was the fridge layed down when moving ? If so , did you let it stand for 24 hrs before plugging it in ? If you layed it down and didn't wait to plug it in , it's no good .
If you did not lay it down , remove the back panel and see if the compressor is running . If the compressor is hot but not running ,possible overload/relay bad . This is the piece that plugs onto the compressor . Also check that the fan that cools the compressor is working .If you remove the inside freezer panel , check to see that the freezer fan is working . Check to see if the coils are getting a light coat of frost on them .

When moving the fridge with a built in door dispenser do I need to plug something first before the move? Do I need new lines after the move?

You can cover the lines to prevent any contamination but it is not necessary, the main thing in moving a refrigerator is to keep it upright during the move. If this is not possible and you have to lay it on its side, wait for at least 12 to 24 hours before plugging it in when you arrive at your new home.

If it is transported on its side and you plug it in too soon you can get liquid refrigerent in the compressor, which will knock it out leading to costly repair and replacment.

Moving a ref.

do not lay down ,,,, oil from compressor will get into the lines and mess up your system ,,, be safe and haul upright and wait 5 minutes after setting in place to plug it back up / larry
