The oven began burning food. When switched off, the area in and around the fan glowed red hot and was extremely hot. Following advice, I have replaced the thermostatic probe, but this has not rectified the problem. The oven heats up correctly, the temperature bars on the control display lighting up as the temperature rises and beeping when the correct heat is achieved. However the oven seems to continue heating, again causing the rear to glow red hot. The only way it would appear we can cool the oven down again or reduce the temperature is turning it off at the mains. It doesn't want to cool down when the controls are all turned off.

The oven has internal fan at back of oven encircling the element that should get reshot when stat turned up high. Also there is cooling fan under lid to keep the wiring area cool. This should stay on for around ten - fifteen minutes after cooking finished. David "The Famous Forry"
If you can see the element heating up, but the fan is not working, then you need to replace the fan motor assy, if you do not, then the element is in danger of burning out.
Hello- This is a brand new model, but it works the same as the rest. Heat is produced by the elements. The fan has an element that glows when heating the air. --Convection oven glass gets hotter than normal fanless models.-- This is all normal operation of the oven. To ensure full life of oven, avoid using the 'self-clean' feature. Techs call this the 'self-destruct' cycle. Please reply to this post if info is helpful- have more if needed- Thanks- Ed
1How
to change a fan oven element and How to change a cooker oven fan Motor
If you
have a electric Cooker or Fan
Oven which is not heating it could be one of the following problems. 1, If thefan motorin the back of the oven is
going round and the temperature light is on (normally little red light), but
there is no heat then you will probably need a new oven element, these are
generally very easy to fit and readily available from our website these can be tested with
a electric meter. To gain access to the elementyou will have to remove
the back plate from inside the oven. Once removed you will see the fan andelement, if you look closely at theelementyou will probably see a
small hole burnt in it where it has blown. Sometimes however there is no
evidence of a fault but the elementis open circuit i.e.
broken inside the element casing, either way it will need replacing. Some
elements will are fixed from inside the oven and some are held in place by nuts
from the rear of the machine. 2, If your fan oven
is getting warm but takes a very long time to cook or is burning the food more
on one side than the other, then you need to check if your ovenfan motoris working you will see
the blade turning fast if it is ok. if the element is heating but thefan motoris not blowing the heat
into the oven then you need To replace the ovenfan motoris a little more expensive
and a bit more involved.
The symptoms you describe are an indication that the fan motor is in imminent danger of breaking down altogether.
You need to replace it as soon as possibe, otherwise you will end up with the element burning itself out, thus doubling the cost of repair.

I
make sure the fan is working o/k, because if it is not, then the element will get bright red hot.
If the fan is working o/k, then the element will still get red hot, but not bright red.
If the fan is not working, then it needs replacing.
Cooking is determined by 3 things so let's look at what they are and what they do.
They are:
The Fan Oven Element - This is very much the same as a light bulb only instead of giving off light it gives off heat. Like a light that is switched On or Off by a wall switch, the Element is switched On or Off by a Thermostat according to the temperature required. In short if the element fails your oven will be cold.
The Fan & Motor - This sucks the air in through the centre mesh and circulates it around the Element and pushes the heated air out of the top, bottom and sides of the back-plate. Fan ovens cannot heat properly if the fan is not running OR if the fan runs too slowly as the motor starts to fail.
The Thermostat. - This is basically an On/Off Switch that responds to the temperature in the oven. If The Fan is running correctly and you are achieving some temperature in the oven, then the fault will be with the Thermostat.
I hope this Helps - Terry

Most modern
gas ovens and many broilers use a "glow-bar" style of igniter that
glows red-hot to ignite the gas. If the igniter doesn't reach the
proper temperature, the gas valve won't open. You may need to replace
the igniter.
