Sewing machine isn't sewing at all...got this 2 months ago, used it 4 times, began breaking thread..ready to sell.

Started out just breaking top thread, I changed needle, got new polyester thread. All I sew on is polyester. When I put in bobbin, set needle, nothing. No seams of any kind. I have messed with tension wheel, thinking it was too tight and causing thread to break. Still no seams showing when I sew. SO SO FRUSTRATED.

Breaking thread could be caused by a couple of things:
1) top tension too tight
2) machine not threaded correctly
3) poor quality thread (don't use bargain thread)
4) needle not compatible with thread/fabric
5) needle installed incorrectly

First thing to try is remove all the thread from the machine, RAISE the presser foot so the thread will seat properly in the tension disk, then re-thread from the beginning--make sure you do not miss any steps.

Usually the factory standard tension setting is with the dial set at the mid-way point between the low and high number. The tension is correct when both the upper thread and the bobbin thread meet in the middle of the fabric.

As a reminder, since your machine is a mechanical, be sure that you are cleaning and oiling on a regular basis. Use ONLY fresh good quality sewing machine oil (not 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or the old oil from grandma's sewing basket). Follow the instructions in the manual. If you want to do a thorough job, open the top and free arm cover. Slowly hand rotate the handwheel and apply 1-2 drops of oil every place that metal rubs on metal. Do NOT oil rubber, plastic parts or belts. Be sure to apply a drop on the shuttle race every time you begin a new project. Oiling according to the instruction manual should be done every 40 hours of sewing time. If in storage, oil every six months.

SOURCE: top thread keeps breaking

This sounds like a backwards needle. Take out the needle and when you re-insert it back in, make sure that put the flat side to the back.

SOURCE: brother xl-2600 As I am sewing

try changing the top thread tension to 3 or 4

also rethread the machine just in case the thread is hung up somewhere

take the bobbin out & put the bobbin in reverse of what you did before

you said you changed the needle, check to make sure it in correctly,, the flat side goes to the back of the machine, push it all the way up before tightening the screw

Top thread keeps breaking

Don't ship it back and the problem is not the tension settings. Even on the tightest setting the thread should not break. Most likely the machine is not threaded correctly. Possibly, you are using too thick a thread or a needle that is too small.

Solution back to basics:
1. verify that you are not using upholstery thread. Use a standard cotton poly mix.
2. the bobbin thread should be the same as the top thread.
3. consider watching a video showing the machine being threaded and make sure the needle is in the top position.
4. sew a test pattern on a normal weight fabric like an undershirt - avoid very thick material.

If this solves your problem then change one item at a time. Use a heaver thread if that is what you want. If it works ok then go to a thicker material, etc. Do not change two or more things at a time..If you have a problem it makes it hard to identify the source.

My Husqvarna diamond top thread keeps breaking while doing loop embroidery. It sews a couple of stitches and then you can hear when the thread breaks. Ive tried changing the needle and bobbin, and cleaning...

Hello

Primary causes of upper thread breakage:

-- misthreading: pull all the thread off and thread again, using the manual, step by step. Read each step aloud before you do it. (sounds dumb, but helps.) (And make sure you thread the takeup lever!)

-- thread has wrapped itself around a thread guide or spool pin from one of the breaks. Take the spool off the machine before rethreading.

-- bad or damaged needle. Replace with the right size for the fabric, turned correctly (backwards needles skip stitches)

-- dirty machine, especially in the bobbin case area: review cleaning instructions and do it, using brush and vacuum only

-- bad/cheap thread: should not be slubby or break easy. Try another spool.

-- top thread tension too tight. 4 is normal for most fabrics, most stitches.

Tips;

1) do a light cleaning (brush and vacuum) every day you sit down to sew.

2) replace the needle if you hear it hit metal, if you've got a really bad thread jam, if you see it deflect as you sew (for instance, sewing over the side seam on jeans when hemming). Replace every 3-8 hours of actual stitching time anyhow.

3) buy good quality thread

4) when your machine isn't sewing right, stop; take all the thread off of/out of the machine (bobbin out of bobbin case, spool off spool pin) and give it a quick cleaning. Rethread from scratch, carefully. If that doesn't fix it, do it again, then replace needle and rethread one more time, manual in hand (yah, even if you've threaded it 8 million times before). #4 is curative about 98% of the time. The other 2% often requires professional attention.
