I bought this expander WRE54G about a year ago used. I got the package no instructions or anything, I havent been able to get it connected. I need to use it to get a better signal up in my daughters room. My router is several floors down and I figured this would really help. I plug it into the wall on the floor just below her bedroom, it can pick it up, and even connect to the expander. The problem is the expander doesnt seem to be conecting to my wireless router. Even when it's connected to the expander is cant get on my network. How to I get the expander to associate with my system in my office?
Hi,
Initially, it is possible that the WRE54G has not been configured to talk with WiFi AP/Router downstairs and all that is needed is to configure/set it up.
Setup (to be done in the same room where your WiFi AP/Router is installed and preferably with your daughter's laptop which can already connect to your network when it is near):
1. Download the LinkSys WRE54G Setup
Wizard from the LinkSys site;
2. Use a LAN cable connection to the WRE54G Ehternet port (located underneath a flip lid in front panel) to one of your daughter's laptop;
3. Power up the LinkSys Expander;
4. Press the Range Expander’s Auto Configuration button for about five seconds. Normally this should be sufficient for the Expander to auto-detect and auto-configure itself;
5. Power off;
6. Move the Expander to your intended place of installation;
7. Again using your daughter's laptop, expand/install the downloaded LinkSys Setup Wizard. Soon as the program is running, follow the on screen instructions. Please don't forget to Save before exiting.
8. Move your daughter's laptop to its intended location and try the system.
Should you still need a User's Guide, it is available here.
Another possibility that we cannot discount is that the WRE54G is also not reaching your router downstairs. Perhaps what can be done is installing it not a floor down from your daughter's but halfway between your daughter's floor and your office downstairs.
Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post again how things turned out or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

Thanks for the assistance... it worked great.
Hi, I think I accidently knocked my range expander's button on the side in and now it seems to not be picking up it's computer anymore, from upstairs. Is there a simple way to get it to pick up the signal from upstairs again, or do I need to do a reconfiguration? If so, what should I do?
Thank you,
Elizabeth
The setup does a site search and fails. I can't get pass this point.
