I banged my head against the wall on this same issue and finally realized that my rear surround speakers were mixed. My rear right was wired to rear left because I was turning around to see L and R. It would shut off at about volume level 40, which was loud but not rumbling. It now ROCKS and is in no way a problem with heat. I have always run it with the cabinet open to allow air to circulate.

Audio amplifier IC's damaged you need to change it.Good luck

i believe protect mode is because you have the wrong impedence speakers, they are too low (4 ohm? 6 ohm?) it chols work with 8 ohm speakers
