My husband and I are not very computer savvy. We purchased the Microsoft Office small business 2007 upgrade version from Staples to install on our new HP Notebook PC with Widnows Vista operating system that has a 60 day Microsoft Office trial. After inserting the disks for the Office upgrade, it starts the installation and says it is removing the old office software. However, we still can't install the upgrade version because it keeps bringing us back to the screen to type in the trial version key #. What are we doing wrong and what can we do to correct it so we can install the new office 2007? Thanks for yoru help.

The upgrade version is only to upgrade a previous version of MS office. The trial version does not qualify as previous version to be upgraded. You need to purchase the full product rather than the upgrade.
If you know somebody who has MS office 2003 with a valid product key, you could install that version, and then upgrade it with the product that you purchased
Have you tried putting the key in the back of the box? because it might be that
