SOURCE: I have a ls2208 symbol

Hi,
Your scanner is set up for full Ascii mode.
$B = CTRL B
%I = >

Re-program to enable "Code 39" and disable "Code 39 Full Ascii"

In Code 39:
$B = Control key on
%I = Tab

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: add carraiage return after scanning

The Motorola support site has an FAQ (ADC-01589) that contains the barcodes to get the LS1902 to add a CRLF after the barcode: Scan Options, Data Suffix, Enter. If the article is no longer there just download the LS1902 or LS1900 series Product Reference Guide to print the barcodes from there. They are usually in the Miscellaneous section.

SOURCE: I have a newly aquired P370 Symbol Scanner and I

One of four reasons for this:

1. The scanner firmware does not support it. Firmware less than rev F does not support the enter- I do not think this is your issue though. You check the firmware revision in the main menu option 4 or scan the barcode out of the Product Reference Guide.

2. Custom firmware on the scanner prevents the enter from being sent. Again check the firmware. If it starts with anything other than an N you should consider sending the device in to Motorola to have it upgraded to standard firmware.

3. The cradle firmware is less than G. If the cradle is less than G it will strip the enter off of the data being sent. If the firmware in your scanner is new enough you can check the revision using menu option 4 in the scanner.

4. An MCL application on the scanner. If you see something other than SKU: on the display the scanner has a custom application on it. The application would have to be modified to add the enter or removed from the device.

Why doesn't it scan correctly?

Hi Anonymous,
This is really difficult to answer without seeing the problem first hand.
If you suspect a possible problem with the scan motor then you could switch off completely remove the mains plug. remove the scan glass carefully clean it (It's always worth a clean both side when you have it removed.
Now mark a tiny on the metal work where the sense carriage is parked up at, so you can move the carriage manually and return it back to the start position.
Now once you have axis to the sense carriage you can move it slowly and I mean slowly across the scan table all the way to the other side, it should be smooth running once your part way across you could take a look at the mirrors if your confident enough carefully clean them with a lint free cloth. (use, hardly any pressure on the cloth to remove any dust)
Now when you get to the point where your scanner stopped when under power, can you feel anything that would bring your mirror carriage to a halt at this point.
If it's nice and smooth then return it back to the starting mark you made earlier replace the glass and switch back on.
Once your printer has returned back to ready, try another scan
If not look for error messages and go from there.
Finally try and work through the service menu something that would checkout the action of the scan unit.
Good luck.

Why do i have to press enter after i scan

You need to configure your scan wedge or terminal emulator software (which usually includes wedge functionality) that processes scanned data to append a carriage return onto the end of what it is sending. Most software includes this as a configuration option, though sometimes you have to manually append a Carriage Return (ASCII code 13, Hex 0x0d, terminal emulation \r)

After scanning it is automatically not going to the next line

Symbol barcode scanners by default do not add a return after a scan. You need to program the scanner to add a suffix.

Download the manual from Motorola/Symbol here

-Scan the Barcode "Scan Options"

-Scan the Barcode "Enter"

Need to have a barcode that when scanned will simulate an enter

There is not a barcode to simulate the enter key. You have to program the scanner to add the C/R (carriage return) to the end of the data that it sends. This is just a simple programming step. The users guide that came with the scanner will have a section in it with barcodes to scan to program the unit to perform differently. Each model scanner is a little different but the process is about the same. Enter programming mode, scan the C/R barcode, exit programming mode. Now when you scan the barcode the scanner will automatically add the "enter" for you.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

How do I get my scanner to go to the next line/box when using Excel?

Hello,

In your programming manual there is a barcode scan that needs to be scanned in that adds the carriage return function. To do this you will first need to scan the barcode to put the unit into program mode, then scan the carriage return barcode, then scan the end programming code. Now when you scan a barcode the scanner will add the return to the sequence it sends to the computer. If you can't find your programming book you can download the sheets from the Symbol web site.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Manual carriage return necessary after scanning barcode

With the Symbol scanners, they usually come with a sheet at least of scan codes to configure the scanner. One of those bar codes will have the option of not needing to manually hit the carriage return. What model scanners are they? You can probably find the codes from Symbol.
