this is a strange problem, the engine would not have left the factory in this condition. are the cam followers the same size ? have they been mixed up.
some engines have an auto decompression which consists of a spring loaded centrefugal weight on the camshaft gear and in order to close the valve the engine has to reach a certain cranking speed in order to compress

Im at cat now, reading their manuals for you.
and looking at 2.2 spec, (valves)
as you know there are 3 kinds of lash.
  1. none HLA , maybe.
  2. bucket lifters and shims. soch or dohc, NO
  3. valve stem to cam direct, race engines DOHC. NO
  4. and tappet lifters.+ screw adj, called SOLIDs to mech/
yours is rockers and tappets called out.
roller rockers some. (is this a turbo version)
i think I see rocker adjusters there, CAT manuals not free to find
cant find free manual

check with cat dealer service center but to get it running .012" inlet hot and .014" exhaust hot is general engineering specs

I have 99 bmw 323i.i ran it hot and got prob fixed and now the eml and a triangle with circle around it comes on dash and car has no power.feels like it has a rev limiter.wats wrong with my car

have throttle body checked also the MDK throttle motor,
make sure that the dealer has followed service bulletin 12 07 99 for procedure to replace the MDK throttle motor
also have them check for codes,here are some codes,
it could be an expensive job,have them check everything,it is most likely the throttle motor,,throttle body is 600 if they switch it,dont let them do it without checking throttle motor,

Can anyone help? i need torque settings for head gasket and settings for inlet tappets and exusht

and don't forget that you MUST buy new head bolts since they are torque to yield and MUST OT be reused!!

I suspect that you at least need to check the valve lash but as long as your head gasket is not dramatically different than original (which it should not be because that would change your compression ratio) you should be close to okay (I would check it). Or if you had any machine work done to the head, in which case you certainly would need to adjust the valve lash.

What is the valve adjustment order when setting valve lash on Isuzu 4jg2 engine

The tappet adjustment is 16thou or .4mm for both inlet and exhaust.
Remove the rocker cover.
Turn the engine over till the timing mark on the pulley lines up on the pin in the cover.
Try to move the rockers on no1...if they are loose and four are tight you are on TDC no1 other wise you are on TDC 4
If on TDC one,

From here you can adjust inlet exhaust on one, inlet two, exhaust three.

Turn the engine 360 degrees one will be tight and 4 will be loose...so now you can adjust both inlet and exhaust on 4, inlet on three and exhaust on two.

How to adjust valve lash on a 1990 Geo Storm

its an Isuzu engine.
there are 3 engines.
4XE1, SOHC 1.6L (base)12valves
4XE1, DOHC , 1.6L same as above but now with 16valves.
4XE1, DOHC, 1.8L bends valves if belt snaps...
note the bad idea of ISUZU calling all 3 engine same name.
a horrid idea.
which one? the second was in USA and Canada only.
the second one was offered as the GSI. is yours that?

so I will attempt to guess for you, its the base engine.
(odds of coin toss)
toss #2, USA, SOHC
guess 3: did a new belt and want to do lash next. Cam belt>
No job stated so i guess 3 times.
Just lash.
SOHC 1.6L only (FSM book quote)
Check the valve lash between the rocker arm and valve stem on both the intake and exhaust valves on the number 1 cylinder, the intake valve(s) on the number 2 cylinder and the exhaust valve on the number 3 cylinder. If the valve lash on the intake valves is not 0.006 in. (0.15mm), adjust the valve lash. If the valve lash on the exhaust valve is not 0.010 in. (0.25mm), adjust the valve lash.

1.6L twin cam has shims.
1.8L has HLA , no lash to set.

HLA= Hydraulic Lash adjusters.

I posted this before, search for it. Im only doing 1 engine.

Engine lost power on a 2004 ford escape and then blew a hole in the egr valve. could this mean a plugged cat converter?

Yes this could be the problem, because you are having backpressure, which is usually the cat, or worst case scenario, you may have a bent or stuck exhaust valve...But what you can do, is disonnect the cat., or the exhaust, and let it run...Now its going to be loud, but if you dont have that back pressure then you know its just the cat., but if you still have it, then you know it maybe a bent or stuck exhaust valve....
