My dvd drawer didn't open. When I took it apart and lift the whole dvd player a little, the door opens. I'm not sure exactly what's causing the problem or how to fix. Any help would be appreciated.

SOURCE: DVD stuck in player SONY RDR-VX 515

Take the lid off by taking the 2 to 4 screws out of the sides of the unit to get the disc out.

SOURCE: my dvd says open door will not open

You probably need a new dvd belt it is 24.25 mm rectangular. or it could've slipped off. Take off cover and move white wheel with teeth very gently until dvd tray starts to open then you can gently pull on it only pull it half way out and look in center of where dvd would normally be. There you will see the bigger and smaller wheels that control dvd player. look around for the belt. Make sure power is off when you do all this.

SOURCE: sony 5 changer dvd player won't work. displayed code 31

Hi:
This may be caused by one or two causes. The laser pickup assembly is bad or the most common failure for DVD and CD players is the spindle motor. This motors bushings fails over time and does not spin the disc at the right speed so the unit times out. You can repair the by purchasing what sony calles the Mech Assembly it comes with new laser and stepper motor as well as the Spindle motor.

Dvd is jammed

If the DVD player/drive door or drawer will not open, try taking a regular metal paper clip, straightening it out, and inserting it into the small hole that releases the cover. Use a flashlight to look for this little hole, insert the paper clip straight in, and press firmly. The door/drawer should come open.

Go Video DV 2150 - DVD door won't open at all. You can hear a mechanism working behind the closed door, but nothing happens and the door remains shut. Any advice??

There is a small belt under the loading tray which would have gone slack ( loose ) and the sound you hear is it slipping on the motor pulley. If you are confident you can remove the mechanism and turn it upside down and access this belt. Dismantle only if you can get the spare belt or your efforts will be in vain.

I have a Teac PD-495 CD player. The door will not open - just makes a 'noise' as if it's trying to open the door but can't for some reason. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the door may have something sticky around the edges. Even a little sticky stuff (like from candy-coated fingers...?) can prevent the door\drawer of any CD player from opening.
Try gently "assisting" the door during the few seconds it's trying to open. If it seems like it's not sticking to the housing try the manual eject button.
Depending on your specific device, there should be a very small hole near the door\drawer (Refer to your owners manual for the exact location). It will be just big enough to stick the end of a large paperclip into. Insert the end of a paperclip into the hole and push firmly (make sure nothing is blocking the door\drawer from opening) and the door\drawer should open slightly. Then pull the door\drawer open the rest of the way. If you have to do this, make sure the power is off as the unit might try to close the drawer automatically while you're trying to pull it open.
Once you have the drawer open, inspect the inner surface of the drawer and the area it contacts for anything sticky. Clean with a damp cloth only. Do not spray any cleaner on the unit. If you need to use any cleaners, spray them on the cloth. Clean the area around the inner drawer faceplate and surrounding areas. Let dry for a few minutes then power up and test for operation. It should work fine now.
If not, it may be time to replace this old unit with a new one as repair costs generally exceed the cost of replacement.

Hope this answers your problem. Good Luck!

My dvd locked in the sony slvd 360p dvd player. how do i eject the dvd from the dvd player?

Open the door to the DVD.. You will see a white plastic wheel inside with "teeth"- like a gear. Use something small to turn the wheel to the right. When it feels like it won't go any further give it a little extra turn and the drawer should pop open. Make sure you are turning it to the right (clockwise)

Does not play DVD and displays HO7. We have tried

This normally means the spindle motor is faulty, there is a little coupler and this splits, this will cause the machine not to load.

Initial screen shows "OPEN" in the top right corner

I had this exact same problem with my Protron DVD player. It was driving me crazy. I was about to just trash it, cause I was so tired of dealing with it. Then I decided maybe I should open it up and see what the issue is. I am not sure what exactly I did that fixed it, so I will just tell you everything I did. It works great now!! It's as if I know what I'm doing... but I was just playing really.

Here's what I did:
I unplugged it, took off the battery pack, turned it over and unscrewed the four screws holding it all together (one of the screws is located under a sticker that warns about voiding the warranty). Then I turned it back over, lifted the screen back and pulled apart the top from the bottom. It did kinda sound like something might crack as I pulled it apart, but it didn't. I just moved slowly and eventually got the entire thing separated, even the plastic around the hinge area will pop off, leaving just a couple cables connecting the top to the bottom. Again... I am not sure what I did that fixed it. But I found the button that would be located under the right small hinge of the DVD door that tells it if the door is open or closed. I pushed it a few times, thinking at first that something might be missing or broken that should make it work. I blew it out (just because it was opened up and I thought it couldn't hurt). I did notice a small white plastic piece near the back that fell when I had pulled open the entire thing. I thought it had to do with dvd door, but then realized it was the control that told the player if the lid was up or down. It had a wide side and a skinny side, with a flat piece in between. The skinny side actually sticks through the top section I had just removed. It shouldn't have had anything to do with the other problem, and it could have been in place just fine before I opened it up. I did put it back through the hole, using a piece of tape to keep it there while I assembled the entire thing back together. And then I was excited. I fixed it. I'm not sure how, but at least I don't need to buy another one. I don't know if it was me blowing it out, replacing that plastic piece, or playing with the dvd door open button. I would think it is the latter. (when it all apart there are two little black buttons near the back. one is just right of center, and the other is another inch or so to the right of that. the first is the dvd door open button, the furthest right is the one that lines up with the white plastic piece and the hole for lid open or closed).

That is probably really confusing. Sorry. I just explained as best I could. Let me know if further explanation is needed.

Toshiba sd-3990 Disc-drawer won't open

I was given one of these the other day. I was told the drawer wouldn't open yet the machine seemed to function fine. I removed the six screws holding the top on the box and then removed the four screws holding the drawer assembly in place. As you lift the drawer assembly out of the box, make sure you release the two pieces of black retaining tape holding the data cable to the box floor. Turn the drawer over and you will see that there is a little sideways bar mounted on the front underside of the drawer assembly. This is sticking. As you press the OPEN button, jiggle this bar and the drawer will open. You may have to manually move the drawer cogwheel a little to help free it up. Hope this helps.
