Why does it squeal while printing? - Brother International Brother HL 5470DW

If it makes a loud squeal and does not print then you may have a cartridge with a jammed drum in it. Try a different cartridge.

What sort of squealing? While it prints, when you first turn it on? The time during printing would tell a lot about what it is. Post back some better details and I might be steer you in the right direction.

Squeals are often a lubrication issue. Can you tell where the squeal is. Front, back, side. sometimes it's hard to tell because sound bounces and could be from anywhere. Does it go away right after first print or after warm up cycle?. Delicate equipment does operate better in the proper environment. The manual will usually tell you what room temp machine will work better in.Try to get a better idea of where noise starts Depending on how long you have had it and the print count it may need to be checked out by tech..

Try with another cartridge first.

Printer may have gears with broken teeth.

Oiling will not help.

Try replacing the Drum Unit, this is a problem I have encountered many times as a service technician. most recently I had one that was at 89% remaining and every time the unit begins the print process it makes a high pitched squeal.

For a possible fix to the Brother HL-2140 squeal/squeak/noise problem open the printer at the other side from the paper tray and toner cartridge door. You should see a little black roller rod along with some white wheels.

The noise may be coming from the contact between the wheels/rollers which pull paper toward the output tray on top after it has been printed.

Check and clean/wipe the wheels and black rod, especially in the center area. Hopefully the noise will now be reduced/eliminated.

It could be the chrome plated shaft the cartridges ride on. Lube with oil.

Do not only lubricate metal shafts, but promptly lubricate the "pulleys" on the right and left side.  the will look very similar to a wheek and pulley mechanism.  The squeal happens when one "bar" connects two "wheels" and one side moves faster than the other.

It could be a roller, a drum, sometimes the auger in the cartridge can do it.

Should have a technician look at it to find specifically where it is comming from.
