We recently replaced both the drum and cartridge. For about the first 20 copies/faxes we get beautiful prints. Then it starts to deteriorate and a large grey streak appears - about 2" wide down the center, similar to a large pencil smudge. You can see where it's being made by a roller some where. Replaced the cartridge a second time thinking we a got a bad cartridge and the same thing has happened. Great copies/faxes initially, then after about 20 prints the grey streak starts to appear. Can anyone help?
It is the fuser at rear giving you grief! The upper heat roller has a teflon coating that wears away allowing toner to stick to roller and smudgin prints as they pass threw it. The fix is to replace fuser assembly, take to brother dealer to fix.
You can prove it to yourself by timing the print to stop mid way threw machine then remove print cartridge and look at paper, you should see a image is good untill it hits the fuser,( pre fused image "rubs off" paper.) If you have changed drum and toner thats all it can be. They all do it in time.
Fuser is hot bit at rear, pull out drum and look in the back with a small torch you will see upper heat roller is worn, guestimation $90 for fuser plus labour to fit.

Thank you so much although I'm bummed to be looking at more repairs costs after just replacing the drum and two cartridges. I should have just invested all that money in a new printer! Thanks again!
