The door on the freezer will not keep closed. What could be the problem?

The freezer was bought in 2011 and it just started doing this. The freezer is level, it also stopped making the noise when the door was closed. I can shut the door and a few minutes later it is open, nothing is pushing against the door. The door closes, then a few seconds later the door pops open.

I have a kenmore upright freezer model 970-254326 bought in 2011 from sears. The door opens left to right but in my tiny apartment I NEED it to open from right to left just to put things in and get th

You should see some plastic plugs or holes for mounting bolts on the opposite side of the freezer case. The latch mechanism should adapt from one side to another.
You would remove the top hinge and then lift the door off of the bottom hinge. Then you would remove the bottom hinge and switch it to the other side. Place the door onto the bottom hinge and then install the top hinge on the other corner of the case to match.
You should be able to move the handle from one side to the other. The magnets in the doorseal should work as before to keep the door closed. The interior light is usually centered on the bottom to aid in reversing the door opening.

Just bought this freezer the door won't open -any ideas why -thanks? David

Hi,
Most upright freezers that I know of have a lock on the door. If there is a tiny hole 1/4" or less in the front surface of the door that has a chrome ring around it, It is a lock mechanism. Look in the envelope that includes your instructions, there may be a key in it. It may have been locked for shipping.
The other possibility is that there is a piece of some very strong fiber impregnated shipping tape strategically located so that it is difficult to see, keeping it closed.
Hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

Weird (Pressure Release) Noise After The Door Has Been Closed

The freezer being closed up tight and so cold can create a negative pressure inside. This negative pressure will cause the door to be very hard to open and could pull the door closed too quickly. Most manufactures today use small air valves the open and release as the door is being opened and closed. They are most often found on the bottom of the door itself or sometimes in the cabinet behind the back wall.

The noise is perfectly normal, my wife says it is there to alarm her when I am eating too many ice cream bars.....

Delfield freezer 6151-S ,replaced door gaskets and they don`t seal

Take a hair dryer (or take off the gasket and throw them in the clothes dryer (yes I am for real I do this all day long)) then put them back on. or the hair dyer way is keep heating the gasket up and holding the door closed while you do it. they should start to seal as you are pressing them together.

Freezer door of electrlux freezer keeps coming

Try cleaning along seal and seal itself. If it does not work get new seal. The seal do go bad after a while.. If under warranty call dealer you purchased from for them to replace.
