It may be the WMS is blocked, i get AL5 or AL6 at the start of the program. here is how i have fixed it the last couple of times. WMS is around £70 (in 2010) - i have that on mine every 4yrs or son - i change the WMS sometimes called the water management system or water softener. it located on the left of the machine.
the floor will get wet during this repair.
you need to turn off the power; turn off the water supply; to it take the top off remove the two screws at the back of the lid. then work your way around the left hand side removing the panel retaining screws. once that is off you can see a large blue plastic 'thing' this is the WMS that you need to replace.
to remove this you need to remove the screws around the inlet for the water, i think there are 5 or 6, some are revealed once cover plates are removed.
there are 5 or 6 retaining the WMS; the most important are the tow at the bottom toward the middle.
now gently prise off the WMS releasing the tabs and catches. do not pull it off as there are some connections still to be disconnected. As to lift the WSM at the bottom right, behind the WMS there are three pipes held on with spring clips, these need to be released. then the WMS should lift off.. replacing is the reverse of the above.

Aeg favorit 86460 does not drain the water, all filters are clean.

I guess you got the alarm AL 6 on your display what means failure to drain. A control procedure has been added to all the final drain phases in order to check the status of the pressure switch. The contact must be open in the "empty" position in order to ensure that the cycle is performed correctly. If the contact is closed, the drain phase is repeated. At the end of the second drain phase, if the pressure switch contact remains closed, "AL" alarm condition is generated.
Could be following:
  • Domestic drain circuit not suitable (obstructed / blocked)
  • Drain pump jammed
  • Pressure switch faulty
  • Sump - pressure switch tube obstructed
  • Filters / drain hose obstructed
  • Relay or Triac faulty

Down under is from AEG Favorit 86460 user manual, page 30 :

...a flashing fault code appears
an audible signal informs you that an alarm has been activated, in the display appears one of the following flashing alarms: AL1 - AL2 - AL3 - AL4 - AL5 - AL6 - AL7, AL8 and the indicator light of the phase under way is flashing. They are indicative of a fault in the dishwasher that you can probably rectify yourself.
- press the On/Off push button to switch the dishwasher off
- open the door and carry out the following suggested corrective actions.untitled-wdmylhxvjmokugi3zifm2oyn-2-0.jpg

Aeg slimline dishwasher 64800. AL5 alarm, but fills up

This control procedure is in operation only during the cold wash and heating phases.
  • Once the pressure switch has closed in the "full" position, it must remain "full" until the subsequent drain phase; if the pressure switch signals "empty", the fill solenoid is activated for a period equivalent to the period of aperture of the pressure switch.
  • The maximum aperture time for the pressure switch (T) during the entire phase is 60 seconds; if this period is exceeded, an alarm condition is generated.
Alarm: AL5

Possible causes:
  1. Dishes upside down
  2. Central filter clogged
  3. Siphon effect created in drain hose
  4. Leakage in sump - pressure switch tube.

Hi, the first thing the dishwasher does is fill with water, so this sounds like a Anti Flood water pump problem this is just behind the water pipe that feeds the clean water into your machine, one thing to check is if the machine is empty of water at the moment, if the machine has water in the bottom then it could be the Drain Pump.

We have AL5 quite requlary. It seems to be related to the pressure of the water going into the machine. I think if it is too high this alarm can be tripped.

There are two main ways we rectify the problem:

1. switch off the inlet water supply. Disconnect the hose at the machine. Let any surplus water drain out (only a couple of spoonfuls). Reconnect and switch on water.

That sometimes resets a sensor inside that relates to the AL5.

2. If the above fails then we remove the panel where the inlet water hose connects to the machine (There are three screws). Then carefully left this panel away from the machine. It will not come right out as it is connected to various bits inside the machine but you can get some access inside. On the left hand side there is a pink pipe with a white stopper on the end. Remove the stopper and let an excess of water out (this might be as much as a cup full). Of course, this must be done with the machine switched off and un-plugged from the mains!! There are electrics inside.

Once the pink pipe is drained, put the stopper back on and reassemble and connect. 90% of the time this works fine.... but the problem does come back.

If it doesn't work after the second procedure has been done then try leaving it over night (with the water inlet switched off) and try again in the morning.

I have experimented with putting the inlet tap half on (i.e. to lessen the flow of water) and that seems to give us longer before the problem returns.

I checked on a site a while back which had suggested that Zanussi were aware of a design problem. Of course, unless cars, they have no recall policy. I have tried to ring them once or twice but have got nowhere. Its hard to tell at times whether you are ringing the right company let alone the right department!!
