Bios Password problem solved but now HDD password awry

We did the Bios password suggestions (the paper clip thing) and that worked, now it is asking for HDD password. Because we didn't know where to find the specific battery (as suggested for removal from another website) we accidentally removed the Hard drive and that prompted the HDD password prompt we think. Is there any way around that? We got the bois update but the cd rom won't boot it and I don't know if that would help anyway. If we could figure out how to get the cd rom to boot a disk, maybe we could reinstall windows xp? Our model is Toshiba Satallite A105-S4244. Please, it is so expensive to just replace the hard drive. We called Toshiba and they said it could be fixed if sent to them for outrageous money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds good except I cannot get the cd rom to boot. I was going to reinstall xp but it won't come up in the cd rom drive. You can hear it spinning but still have that screen that has HDD built in password on it.

Just google "lost password" and you will find several utilities that will fix this. Simply burn the utility to a CD (they're typically in ISO format), and boot off the CD, follow the directions with that specific program. I've had very good success with that.

When i turn my d257 acer aspire one on it goes to blue screen asking for a password, or it either goes to a screen that says no boot disk

No Boot disk found - usually indicates the HDD is not located.
so you need to validate the HDD is inserted properly, and locked into the HDD slot. securely,
Blue Screen asking for password, could mean several things,
basically you need with both errors, take to a good Repair Tech and have this looked into... PASSWORD can be either for BIOs or HDD,
or the system went into LOCKED MODE and password is needed to UNLOCK it.

3. as the hdd was removed the BIOS read at 1st ata device but i was able to select field, which had as options
4. select option and the "manual" options for the hdd appear
5. don`t change anything, remain on that page and insert the HDD drive in the tray. as it powers up the bios completed me the field vith the values for my hdd automatically.
6. go back to the field "1st ata device" and selected the option
7. go to the bios SECURITY section and in the field "HDD Password" enter a password of your choice (but remember or note it down)

Help!

hi, If you set the hard drive password yourself and forgot it, you out of luck. I don?t know if you would be able to recover it. After a quick search on Google I found a utility called A-FF Repair Station. They support a lot of drives and license for 1 recovery will cost you about $50. I have never tried this software myself. If you didn?t set the hard drive password and the laptop still asking for it on start up, then I have a suggestion. Check the version of BIOS installed on your laptop. Three wil be some fix in the latest version like: ?Prevented the message asking for HDD password when there is a problem with the HDD?. In other words, if there is a problem with your hard drive, the laptop might ask you about the hard drive password even if you didn?t set it up. Go to Toshiba tech support website, update the BIOS on your laptop and see if you can bypass the HDD password message. According to the BIOS fix in v.1.50, the HDD password message might indicate that you have a bad hard drive. If after the BIOS update you can bypass the hard drive password message and access the data, I would recommend back it up as soon as possible. regards sreejith
