Question about Tascam 2488 Portastudio Multitrack Recorder System
Though there is plenty of recording space on most of my five partitions, the system won't let me record. After I've hit all the appropriate inputs and set the right levels, I can't get the "Record" button to light when I push it simultaneously with "Play". It's not just an indicator light issue, because nothing is recording. Appreciate any observations.
SOURCE: cant restore levels
Sounds like you might have 'Fader Matching' set to something other than 'Real' mode which can cause the physical fader positions to be mismatched with the internal fader settings (useful for saving scenes, and used on the 2488 because there are no motorized faders). You can go into the 'Mixer Preferences' Menu (under the 'Preferences Menu') and check the what is set for fader matching. If it is set to 'jump' or 'catch' you should change this to 'real'.
You also might have a particular 'scene' being recalled which has a lot of saved settings that are affecting the levels.
You can refer to pages 39 and 92 (in the MkII manual) for references on scene memories and fader matching.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Play and Record button not working
I have the same problem with all three of my Tascam 2488 MKII's.
It's a software problem and starts to show up when the harddisk gets full.
Backup your song files ( something you have to do anyway ) and then reformat the entire hard disk.
Then restore the songs you were working on lately.
Before doing this rather huge task, you can copy your latest song to another partition and go on with this copy.
This is only a provisional solution.
Hope this helps !
Best regards

SOURCE: on my tascam 2488 neo,
I think if you had the manual you would know the answer to the last question.
Tracks must be a minimum of 4 seconds long (page 118)
Register and download the manual for free at audio.manualsonline.com
Search for "Tascam Portastudio 2488"

SOURCE: Poor Recording Level on the Tascam DP-02CF
If it works like my DP02 and DP03, you must disengage the tracks you've recorded to, get it to playback. Also make sure your Master Fader is turned up as well as the faders for the tracks you've recorded. Also on the Inputs Trim (the two knobs at the top) should be at least 50% up. I have my Dp02 at about 75% of max and my DP03 at 50%. Try this if it doesn't help, customer service at 323-727-7617 or 323-726-0303.
