If you are talking about an external light, it is most likely a neon indicator light that tells whether you have lost power to the unit. Blinking is normal with age or power fluctuations.
Red light lit on freezer means that is not reaches operating temperature.
Most often the old freezer has three indicator lights.
- Green light : that it is brought to a power source and turned on - Red light : means that the temperature is above -18 degrees
- orange light : pressing the so-called SUPER-switch which means that the compressor is running continuously. The SUPER-button switch on a few hours before you begin deep-freeze foods. Freezing time depending on foods quantity (kg). With old freezer must be careful to turn off the switch S (orange light) when the red light goes out or when foods are frozen, otherwise after a few days may burn out the compressor. You should be following the instructions from user manual.
In new freezer managed by the electronics, this function has a predetermined maximum duration, in order to protect the compressor, and can have different marketing names like "shopping".....
It's a temperature warning that the freezer is no longer at the correct temperature. Check all is clean and working, door seal intact etc. If short of gas, probably time to get a new one!!! Bet it won't last 18 years this time though!
if you turn the freezer off for some time then on again the red light has to come on as an indicator for high temperature it goes off by itself when the freezer attains the required temperature according to the thermostat settings ,that is the lower the settings the faster the red light goes off. the orange light indicates super cooling and the green light indicates power supply.if you turn the two lights off and the freezer still works without the green light on that means that the bulb for the green light is faulty and you don,t need to worry
There are two possible causes or types of frosting. One is where the surface of the items in the freezer have frost on them. It may be in one spot or evenly distributed. This is caused by excess room air getting into the freezer because of leaky door gasket which should seal snugly on a dollar bill inserted between the gasket. Frequent or prolonged door opening will also allow room air in. The higher moisture content in the air freezes on the surfaces of the food etc.
The other cause and type of frosting is automatic defrost failure.
defrost cycle is innactive, will ice up shortly and may not turn compressor off, defrost the unit totally(Turn off for 2 days with door open) and remove all water from the unit once done. Restart unit and should work normal for a week or so, ie...defrost cycle...get back to me if this is the case and will sort it from there, [email protected] Russ
The red light and the audible alarm both come on when the freezer gets warmer than the alarm point... unless you disable the audible alarm with the rocker switch
