I DON'T KNOW. MY MANUAL ANSWERING MACHINE HAS A SELECTION I CAN CHANGE. THIS MACHINE ONLY RINGS 3 TIMES IF OLDE MESSAGE NOT REMOVED. MY WALK AROUND PHONE HAS MENUE TO ADJUST RINGING FUNCTIONS. SEE YOUR MANUAL IF YOU HAVE IT.
If the problem is with an AT&T cellphone you will need to call them or go log in online to change that feature, however if it is with a Uniden Cordless Phone (the product this question is linked to) the directions below found in their manual should help:
Uniden Cordless Phone
From the base
1) Press [clock/menu] three times. The base displays the current number of rings (2, 4, 6, or TS for toll saver) and announces the setting.
2) Press [>>/select] or [<</select] until the desired ring time appears.

If you call your phone from outside to listen to new messages, you will know that there are no messages when the phone rings for the 3rd time. You can then hang up without being charged for the call. 1 Press OK. Select “Answer System”, then press >(Right navigation button). 2 Select “Settings”, then press >. 3 Select “Number of Rings”, then press >. 4 Select the desired setting, then press >. 5 Press End button

Your voicemail thinks that it is ringing six times. The time that it takes to transfer to the extensions counts. Whiloe it seems that there is a lapse the system actually is using enough time to ring six times total. If you need longer ring time at the extension, take in account the transfer time and set it to pick up after 8 or 9 rings. It will actually only ring six. You just have to trick the system a little.
