When I turn on the set IT NEVER COMES ON then AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF. The best repair company in the area says it's a $2800 repair:
"The coolant leaked out of a tube onto the signal board.3 tubes and the board need to be replaced" (This was the "GOLD' top of the line Mitsubishi when I bought it 6 1/2 yrs ago; I'[m steamed...there must be a less expensive fix".
Is there any way that a non-electrician guy can get the parts and fix it himself?
(I still have my 20yr old 25inch Mitsubishi that works great!
    Help...

Same problem..green light comes on for a sec when trying to turn tv on..then just automatically shuts off. Got the tv to come on once and then none of the buttons on the front panel worked. Went away for a few days, shut power off completely to set and the TV came on and all buttons were functional..shut it off..turned it back on. Then called my kids to say it was fixed and now it will not come on at all..just the short click, green light flickers, then nothing.

This has happened to me, I'm watching my aunts place for her and i know she's going to think it's my fault ... is there anyway i can get this fixed easy? maybe even without having to call anyone?

It was helpful in identifying the problem, can you tell me what to do now? I received a code of 2-2 after running the diagnostics. Thanks very much, Jim.

My Mitsubishi VS-55705 rear projection set just shut down yesterday and won't come back on. The power light shows green for a few seconds and then the set clicks off again. Even after being shut down for some time, it won't come on.

What you have there is a V27 Chassis manufatured in 1999..
But it is the same chassis that was later used in their WS55517 65517 and 73517... Regardless of the outcome here are some common caps that ALWAYS need to be replace:
C979 2.2uf 200v
C531 2.2uf 160v
C551 2.2uf 160v
C981 22uf 50v
C402 47uf 35v

Now to your problem, it could be a number of things. The regulator could be suspect, (Ic951 which is a STRF6628) but you might try the following before taking any gunshot approaches. This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. MAY BE INTERMITTENT, SELF-DIAGNOSIS ERROR 23 OR 24. CHECK SOLDER CONNECTIONS AT CONNECTOR "DY" ON THE YOKES. 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF-DIAGNOSIS ERROR 23 OR 24. CHECK C411 2200 UFD 35 V AND C412 10 UFD 50 V, BOTH LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB.
Hope this helps!
Bill

Well! You either got your video card or motherboard burnt up. Connect to a external monitor and see whether you get display or not? If you get display, your monitor is defective or may be your video card. Otherwise you should have to replace your motherboard.

i think the internal components are wet. that happened to mine too. If it wasn't to long ago, then do this: 1. remove all removable parts (battery etc) 2. blow dry parts with hot air 3. place parts in a bag of rice for about a day (yes, rice) 4. remove them and test it if it still doesn't work, replace the battery. after getting a new battery mine worked fine, hope this help :)

KP51ws500 turns green and shuts itslelf off

There may be several causes but, one is that when any color gun is being over driven, the Sony shuts down the gun to protect it. Try this. Remove the front of the set by removing the two screws from each lower corner. Next remove the black panel held on by 5 or 6 screws. Now you should see a panel with 6 potentiometers on it. Turning the ones on the bottom row CCW reduces the drive. Turn the color down and if all the guns stay lit, SLOWLY turn them up until you get the color balance that you like.

Power light blinks

I found a solution, Heat. When the set is on and heats up it stays on, but once off for the night it gets cold and can't start, try using a hair dryer on full blast and put the heat around the back top vent like structure and wait for the light to stop blinking, this only takes about 2 min or so
