My Riccar 8850 is very hard to push, even moreso on heavier pile carpet. Know any reason why? Also see my "more details" section.
Belt was replaced, new bag is in, nothing is wound around the brush. Brush spins, plate is correctly installed. I simply don't know what is wrong. I recently had the carpets steam cleaned ... noticed the drag on the vacuum after the cleaning. I assume this is because the carpet cleaning re-fluffed the carpet. Any ideas on what is going wrong?

Inside the bad compartment you can see the swivel portion sticking through. You will need to take a screwdriver and push in on the tabs on the swivel to release it so it can be removed from the body of the vacuum. The new hose ans swivel will just push into the hole and the tabs will hold it in.
Your 8850 is an old vacuum. If a new belt does not solve the problem it may need a new rubber motor mount or metal pivot. Both parts are inexpensive and available from your Riccar dealer. If it's been a while since it's been serviced it would be wise to have it serviced by your dealer. A Riccar vacuum will last for many years but should be serviced once a year like all vacuums.
The carpet / floor selector moves a rod which adjusts the clutch, Your model is over 10 years old, it may need a new belt, clutch rubber pad or just need adjusted. If you don't know how to perform these services take your vacuum to your local Riccar dealer for service. It's the least expensive way to keep it working properly for many years.
There is not a pulley missing, when the belt is tight the shaft will turn the belt but when the belt loses elasticity it will slip on the shaft when being used on the carpet. Replace the n
belt at least once or twice per year.
The reason it doesn't pick up on the carpets is because the belt is stretched or worn and can't turn the roller brush against the resistance of the carpet. Here is a link to the replacement belts you need:
Replace your belt. Remove the baseplate, remove the brushroll, place a new belt around the motor pulley, then around the pulley on the brushroll, and pull the brushroll back into place in the nozzle. Spin it by hand to make sure it spins, (otherwise you'll break the belt again,) and then replace the baseplate. Party.
