I have gotten a new laptop and can't find the original cd to use to install my printer. Is there a way I can do this without the cd or is there a way I can order another cd?

I had a similar problem with my HP 3650. I can install my printer on windows XP but not windows 7. I had to download the drivers compatible with windows 7 for the printer on the internet,

You don't necessarily need your printer connected to your PC to install the driver. The driver installation is so that your PC can communicate with the specified printer. If you have the install CD you can install the driver and software. Now Depending on your printing machine, some installation CD's will ask you to please connect your Printer. If this is the case, there really is no way around that because the installation directions wont let you proceed to the next step without doing that.
Each printer and its installation software have different protocols. Some will let you install without the printer being connected, some wont.

Select your country
Select "SUPPORT & DRIVERS
Tell it what kind of printer you have.
Select your OS(operating system)
Select drivers.
By the way,
If you are running WIN7, universal print drivers that come with Windows7 should automatically load.

1. Go to HP.com
2. Don't be talked into going anywhere else except the manufacturer's site
3. Select "Suppoer & Drivers" on the top bar on the HP.COM website
4. Select: "Step 1: Download Drivers and software (and firmware)"
5. Enter (in Step 2): PSC 1610
6. Enter your Operating System (Probably Vista, not Vista 64)
7. At this point, choose (click on) "HP PSC Full Feature Software and Drivers"
8. It will download the entire software. When done (maybe more than 10 minutes to download), "Run" the downloaded software.
9. If you are not in a hurry, you can also order the replacement CD from that web page (Free).

Whenever we are buying any new printer, the printer driver cd will be given by the vendor to install the printer in the Laptop or Desltop.

In this incident, the printer software might have been removed fully without knowing this issue.

The best things is either approach the Local Printer dealer to get the Printer Driver cd and install the same in the machine.

Or it can be donwloaded from the Net, but it will consume more time.

Best solution is approach the local printer engineer who will be having the Driver CD with him to install the same in the machine.

One more request is make the printer, desktop or laptop should be in some annual maintenance contact with local authorized vendor. In this case, if it is under Annual Maintenance Contract, the Vendor should have installed the printer within a short span of time.

Hi,
The windows vista DVD that you have is an OEM and not a retail windows vista copy. If your friends computer is a non dell system, you would not be able to install it on his computer in the first place. If its a dell computer purchased before 2007 , it will not install.
In all other conditions it would install without any problems

It sounds like a problem with part of the I/O for the CD drive on the mother board. If the computer is under warranty, I would see about sending it back for service.

Normaly, if you are using original supported devices, if the drive is not defective and the drivers are installed, it should work.
