I've had a Canon MP640 printer for several years - generally worked trouble free. Recently, when printing photographs using 6x4 paper in the rear tray, about 3/4 of the way through the print, the paper twists slightly, resulting in lines across the print, and the last part being at a slight angle to the rest. I've tried all the built in maintenance routines - head alignment, roller cleaning, etc with no success. Using A4 in the rear tray is not a problem - only the smaller paper.

Try to manually clean the printer head. Take a cotton cloth and dab a little bit of alcohol (like whiskey) and then clean the printer head & the cartridges with it. Do remember it is a delicate process and if you messup, you might damage the printer/cartridges. So be careful & lemme know the result.
SOURCE: Aligning Print Head Alignment
From the front panel (Macintosh and Windows)Press MENU or SETUP (depending on the model).
Press the right ARROW repeatedly until the display window reads Maintenance.
Press ENTER.
Press the right ARROW repeatedly until the display window reads Align Print Cartridges.
Press ENTER. The unit will begin the alignment process and the display window will read Printing Alignment Page
Verify that the alignment was successful after the page is complete.

Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

try to change the color ink. horizontal banding (the pink or other color lines appearing means horizontal banding) when there is a problem on one of the heating element of the printer head. since almost all canon printers have head built in the inks, replacing the faulty ink will solve the problem. if not then the controller of printhead on the carriage and mainboard needs to be checked.
