How did my neighbor hear my cell phone conversation from over 100 miles away on his cordless phone?

While I was away, I called my neighbor and a couple of days later I called a friend who was coming to visit me at our camp, which is over 100 miles from my home. My friend was on her way down, and I left a message on her voicemail. My neighbor told me that he heard my message that I left, when I was talking to her voicemail. How did this happen?

Cell tower interfering with the cordless phone.

Testimonial: "Thank you for answering my question. How is that possible? I don't know a lot about technology, so I don't see how that is possible. I was over 100 miles from him, and on a different day from when I called him."

SOURCE: iPhone has been locked up

Hi..have you tried your SIM in a different phone and does it work?? If not then its most likely the network with the issue not the phone but if the SIM does work in another phone all i can suggest really is to try restore your phone from a back up from before you started having trouble with it...so say you have a back up from 3 days before you had the issue then restore from that...restoring from a back up will prevent you loosing all your iphone data.. if that doesnt work im afraid you'll have to restore your phone as new to wipe it and basically start fresh..

Hope it helps!!

Use the following steps to restore your device: before doing this please make sure you have your comp powered up and an updated version of itunes on it.

  1. Power down your phone and holding down your home button for around 6secs, connect to your comp still holding the button until you receive a message on itunes saying an iphone has been detected in recovery mode, then continue to restore your iPhone.
  2. Select the Restore option.
  3. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up option (as seen in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary to create another.

  4. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up your device, you should not have to worry about restoring your phone).
    ht1414_04--restore_dialog-002-en.jpg
  5. Once the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple logo while starting up:

iPhone only: For the iPhone only, after a restore, the iPhone displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. Keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or you see "iPhone is activated." If iTunes does not have an Internet connection, you cannot complete this step.

  6. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. Once your device is restored and-in the case of the iPhone-in the process of activating, you should be able to see the following in iTunes:
    ht1414_08--set_up-003-en.png
Select the backup you want for your device and select the Continue button to complete your device's restoration.
If you do not want to restore from backup, select "Set up as new..."

Our phone rings, but we get the dial-tone when we answer and hear our neighbors conversation in the background

Change the channel or code setting. It's also possible the 'pairs" for your house and your neighbors are "crossed". Does it happen with all phones or just the cordless one. If it's all phones, the problem is in the phone lines.

Cobra 29 ltd bt! New to cbs ..buddy says when I make phone call to him it sounds like I am a million miles away.. any Ideas?

Make sure to place your cell phone at least 12 inches away from your CB, and make sure your cell phone is not far from your blue tooth, and make sure you have a good signal on your cell phone and this will insure a quality conversation.

Other conversations on my cordless

I presume you are saying that you can hear other people's conversations when you pick up your phone. Nothing you can do about that - and, worse, other people can hear your conversations as well.

Buy a cordless telephone that uses encryption, e.g. a DECT phone.

Have the Motorolla MD4260 model cordless phones. Told by a neighbor two streets away that our phone conversations are being heard on a bearcat scanner. Help...what kind of phone should I buy to avoid this?

This is quite common, it means that the scanner was on a similar wavelength as the phone.

If you buy another phone check with the store to see if the wavelengths won`t mix.

Hope it helps!

I hear neighbors conversation when I use mycordless v-tech phone. why do i hear them talking? I have had the telephone company out to check the lines and they are ok.

These are called interferences. Each phone base is an antenna. You and your neighbors probably have cordless phones that use the same frequency. Check with them ann con sider buying a different phone (different working frequency).
Remember that interferences are a two-way street. If you can unintentionally eavesdrop on them, so can they eavesdrop on you (unintentionally or otherwise.) You may also consider having a spare corded phone.

Clicking noise and out of range

digital is supposed to stop your calls from been listened into, if it is analogue it is very easy.
are there a choise of different channels? can you haer her conversations?
turn off the base and try turning on the handset and see if you can listen in?
if the phone battery is getting old it won't transmit as far.
the signals move in line of sight so if you move the base it might work better for you and maybe make it difficult to listen in?9They might get your signal stronger than there own?

My Neighbors calls make my phone ring.

If it is a cordless phone, the neighbour may have the same model phone and you are crossing frequencies. There should be a button on the handset labeled channel. Press that a few times and that may clear up. You may also have crossed lines at the switch box. If that is the case you need to call the phone company to fix the line.
