This is how to complete a remote reset for a Sharp television:
Turn off the television if it is on. Unplug the television. Please leave it unplugged. Take the batteries out of the remote control. Leave the batteries out of the remote control. Is the television still unplugged? Yes? Good leave it that way. Are the batteries still out of the remote? Yes? Good leave them that way. Point the remote at the television's remote sensor. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Release it. Press and release each button on the remote control. Plug the television back in. Turn it on with the power button on the television itself. Replace the batteries. Try adjusting the volume. Hopefully the remote works. If it still doesn't work the remote sensor on the television could have gone out or you may need a new remote. http://www.sharpusa.com may have a remote you can order or http://www.replacementremotes.com but if that isn't the problem you may or may not be able to return the remote.
Without knowing the model of your remote or direct tv box it is impossible to answer that question other than to say, did you try unplugging the power from the box, waiting a minute or two and plugging it back in?
I'm not sure there is a universal remote available for AC units. There may be, I just have not seen one. However, you can still operate the unit without the remote, if you do the following. I'm assuming you have changed the batteries in the remote and they were installed properly (i.e. Facing the right direction) and it still doesn't work or you lost the remote.
Turn the unit OFF and unplug it for 15 minutes. Once the time has elapsed, plug the unit back in and turn the ON/OFF switch to ON. The unit should have reverted back to the original factory setup settings. Which should now allow you to operate the unit without the remote, because the controls on the unit should now be activated.
I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.
Try unplugging the TV from the power point and leave unplugged for 5 min. Or the batteries in the remote may be flat, try replacing the batteries. If this doesn't work the TV may have a fault.
Depends on the TV. Most flat panels require that you hold the POWER button for about 10 seconds to unlock the rest of the panel buttons on the TV. Other TV's may require the same procedure, but just with a different button. If holding POWER doesn't work, try the other buttons on the TV. All else failing, try unplugging it overnight.
Unplug the set and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't then it sounds like there is a problem on the board underneath the power button. Something isn't allowing the circuit to be cut.
