Only if you have a source button on the tv itself. On many of the newer sets you have to have the remote to access your other inputs. Without the remote, nada. And forget universal remotes - they only provide for the most basic functions and video source is not one of them. And you get hosed on original remotes.

Thank you so much for your input. I finally got the universal remote to work. I took the back off and dusted off the IR receptor, and figured it out. Again thank you so much

Using an old RCA remote, I just successfully got my neighbor's Symphonic TV (Model WF203 aka: wf 203) to switch between the three inputs of: Coaxial on the back, RCA jacks in back (Video 1), and the RCA jacks in front (Video 2).

The RCA 'code' for all Symphonic TV's is 1071

Unfortunately, as I have seen in posts elsewhere on this website, I was not able to find a way to do this using the TV-front-buttons menus. But, at least you can do it with any RCA remote that has a "Code... " button, I would guess, since the remote I used was many, many years old.

Thankfully my neighbor had just bought a brand RCA remote, thinking that it would solve the problem. I did Not use the new remote, but I did use the code-list that came with the new remote to get the RCA code for the Symphonic TV, and the code for the Zenith analog-to-digital converter box that connects the antenna to the old TV.

0. Hold the remote (with good batteries in it) as close as you can (I was about a foot away, or a little less) to the little round black window (about the size of a quarter) on the right-bottom front of the TV.

1. Press and hold the button "Code select" (I think it was called; "Code SOMETHING"... top-left corner of that remote) until the little red light comes on. It will stay solidly lit (not flashing) for about ten seconds, but if you do not press one of the four device buttons next, within about ten-seconds, it will turn off again.

It is okay if you wait too long. The light may start to flash before turning off completely, but just let it be without pressing any other buttons if it starts to flash, and let it go out. Then press the button "Code ..." again, and the red light will again come on solidly.

2. Press the button "TV" (a blue button, in my case), and the red light will flash off and back on quickly (one time only), and will then remain on solidly.

The "TV" button is one of four buttons in a group, since that RCA remote can control up to four devices.

The red light should remain on (not-flashing), for several seconds, as it waits for you to input the four-digit code; though if you wait too long, it will start to flash, and so if that happens, just wait until the red light goes off, and start all over.

3. Enter the code "0171". Each time you press a number on the remote, the little red light will flash off and quickly back on again, and will stay solidly-on until you press the next number-button; although after you enter the fourth number, the red light will turn off, and stay off.

4. Press the blue button "TV" to make sure that the remote knows you want to use the remote for the TV.

5. Press the remote button "Input". (half-way-down-on-right)

That will show a display on the TV of either "Video 1", "Video 2", or "a number representing a channel.. in my case, since the Digital Video Converter box from the antenna is hooked up to the TV-back coaxial connection"; depending on whether it is presently using the RCA back, RCA front, or the Coaxial on back.

To switch between the three different inputs (after pressing the remote button "Input")... um... I did not take careful notice of which remote button my neighbor used to switch to "Video 2", in his case of having the DVD player hooked up to the TV front ... maybe he was pressing "Input" again, or possibly the "Channel-up-arrow",... I leave it to you to figure that out

To be able to use the remote to switch channels on the Zenith Digital Converter Box, I followed the steps above, but on step 2, I pressed the second-from-the-left blue button (CATV/... I forget exactly what three items were written on the remote for that blue button).

The converter code was three-digits, and the red light went out after I pressed the third number of the RCA code (a single code is used for all Zenith converters). Note that this button only accepts 3 digits, whereas the blue-button "TV" accepted four numbers before the red light went out.

.The end. "All the best; intended." -Chris

I have lost the remote control for my Model No. WF203 Symphonic TV. Can I buy another one that will work with my TV?

You can get most any universal remote and program it to work with your TV. I purchased one at the big W-Mart store and another one at the big Electronic retailer B-Buy for less than $20. If you want the specific remote, you can certainly go online and find about 20 or more places selling replacement remotes... just google replacement remote control and search at the sites.

Good luck!
