Color ink problem with Kodak ESP 2150. Magenta not working. Can anyone help? Thanks!

We just put a new authentic Kodak color cartridge into our Kodak ESP 2150 printer. It was not printing the colors correctly so I went to the printer menu and cleaned the print heads and calibrated the cartridges. The sheet that printed out was fine with black, blue, and yellow. There was absolutely no magenta red on the printed out test page. If you need more info, I will be happy to provide it

SOURCE: Printer will not use the magenta color

I had the same problem. It is most likely that your print head nozzles are clogged. Your choices are to attempt to manually clean them, or order a new print head from Canon.

Attempt the manual cleaning at your own risk, this doesn't always work. When it does not work, it means your print head is damaged.

To maually clean the print head. Printer cover up (so you can get to the cartridges and print head). Turn the Printer Off. Remove all the cartridges (I put each cartridge in a separate zip lock bag). Then flip up the lever and remove the print head.
Now heat (don't boil) distilled water (Iused a good sized cook pan and a plastic measuring cup to pour the water). Find a container you can soak the print head in (I used a deep alluminum baking pan). Pour the hot (not boiling) distilled water over the print head molding where the cartridges seat down (hold the printhead over your diposable alluminum pan). Then dunk the molded print head part into the pan numerous times. When the water gets dark change it (be carefuill not to stain the sink). Then slowly pour the hot distilled over the print head (opposite side from where the cartidges seat in). Eventually no ink will be in the water. Set the print head on a dry paper towel, and let it dry for 24 hours or longer. Reinstall the print head, then the catridges. If it worked, your true colors will return. It make take up to 15-20 photos to get all the ink catridges flowing-be patient. You can also just wait 24 hours after re-installing the cartridges, and hopefully it will take less photos to see the correct color match.

Never keep printing when a cartridge is low or out.
Print a few prints every week. Not printing for weeks causes the printheead and the ink flow to clog!

Good luck. I just recovered my S820 and my i900D using the above cleaning method. Like everything else, your mileage may vary! It cost me $1.29 for distilled water and about an hours worth of time!

This can happen if the ink dries out for a long time. Try to power flush the color that doesn't work.

Press the Menu/Set, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 keys within two seconds. (if you fail to complete the correct key sequence within two seconds, press the Stop key to try again).

press 7 then 6 then 4 then start black copy. This will fill the tubes with ink.

press 7 then 6 then 3 then start black copy. You may use the right arrow to choose the color you want to flush before you press the black copy button.

Press 99 to exit maintenance mode

Press the ink button and do a test print for print quality and see if the color you flushed works. If not, try again.

This is the only way to fix the dried print head. Otherwise you have to replace the print head, in which case, you might as well buy a new printer.

My kodak esp 3 won't doesn't recognize the new black ink we put in

I'm having this same problem with both black and a color cartridge. I see the small scratches, so looks like they are connecting all right. The new cartridges are Kodak brand, so that's not the problem.
I'll try calling them about the print head if that might be the problem.

I have an all-in-one Kodak ESP 3250 printer. Bought it 4 months ago. I'm interested in printing only in black, but now the color cartridge has emptied and it won't let me print with the black cartridge...

The KODAK All-in-One Printer uses an advanced built-in printhead. The system is designed to provide excellent image and text quality, while eliminating the need to purchase new printheads every time you replace ink cartridges, and saving you money. The printing system requires that both the black and color ink cartridges be installed to print. If either cartridge is not installed or is out of ink, the printer or printhead will not print correctly.

Install the color a new cartridge, avoid damage to the print head.

Hello'' can you tell me how to change the ink in the kodak printer?

  1. Open up the cartridge to reach the ink chamber within. For color and photo cartridges, just remove the lid with a sharp knife (insert it where the black and colored plastic meet) to find the three fill holes. On black cartridges, make a hole with a heated pin or drill on top of the cartridge where the letter "K" is.
  2. Step 2 Check the chambers in a color/photo cartridge to determine which color ink is in which chamber. Insert a different toothpick or pin into each chamber to draw out yellow, cyan or magenta ink.
  3. Step 3 Fill a plastic syringe bottle with enough ink in the color you are refilling. A black ink cartridge should need 10 to 15 milliliters. A color/photo cartridge takes 5 milliliters of each color.
  4. Step 4 Insert the syringe needle into the cartridge, sending the tip down to the bottom. The chamber contains a sponge, so you will need a small bit of force to push it in.
  5. Step 5 Inject the ink into the cartridge. Unlike other brands of cartridges, you want to saturate the sponge with ink in a Kodak cartridge. Depress the syringe plunger slowly until you can see the ink begin to surface on top of the sponge.
  6. Step 6 Wash all ink residue out of the syringe after you've refilled one shade of ink. If you intend to refill another color immediately, dry the syringe out first.
  7. Step 7 Replace the lid on a color/photo cartridge. Apply a strip of tape to the spot where you first removed the lid to secure it. You don't need to seal a hole you drilled in a black cartridge.
  8. Step 8 Leave the cartridge standing in a secure spot overnight. This helps the ink settle within the cartridge for even printing once the cartridge is back in the printer.

Prints all pics with green tint...

Have you replaced the magenta ink cartridge? green is a mix of the yellow and cyan, indicating a lack of magenta. If your cartridge is a 3 color, then the magenta is likely empty or the cartridge is defective.

The Kodak printers are designed in such a way so as to work with combination of Both color and black ink..In other printers, the prints are not that sharp, but In kodak printers color are awesome because even if we print black and white, the color from the color ink is also taken to give you those lifetime prints.Unfortunately There is no way to overcome this ink indicator. You cans et the preferences in the printer settings to print in black and white in your computer .
