Yes, the touch pad may defective. But, before you try to replace it, let's try something else first.
Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Wait 15 minutes and plug the unit back in. Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and set the humidity extraction level where you want it. Hopefully, that 15 minute time out allowed the unit to reset itself and revert back to the original factory settings.
If it didn't you can order replacement parts directly from Haier 877-337-3639 or locate a service center near you.
