How do I stop my ice maker water filler hose from freezing - which stops water from filling the tray?

If I defrost the hose with a hair dryer, the ice maker works - but I don't want to have to do that all the time to make ice!

This problem is caused by a defective water control valve that does not stop leaking water like a dripping faucet. This causes water to freeze in the water fill tube thus blocking fill of ice tray. Replace water control valve.

Since I posted my question, I see another possible cause for the water line freezing - low water pressure (<20 psi). Can you tell me how I can measure my water pressure out of the water dispenser, e.g. what's the slowest to fill an 8oz glass if the pressure is correct? Thanks.

SOURCE: Ice maker freezes up

Icemaker Fill Tube Freezing Make sure the water supply is greater than 20 psi. If too low, the water valve won't seat properly and it'll "weep." Common causes of low pressure are gunked-up saddle tap valves, kinked water supply line, and using a reverse osmosis filter to supply water to the icemaker. Check to see if the black, flexible portion of the fill tube is wrinkled, twisted, or kinked which can cause ice dams that block the fill tube. It turns out that the manufacturer's have been scratching their heads about this, too, and have concluded that the new fill tube air slit design helps prevent this problem.

SOURCE: Ice Maker leaking water in freezer and won't stop making ice

The filter should be before the fridge and should not affect it it sounds like the water valve from the fridge is defective .Other possibility is the icemaker head is defective and needs changing.

SOURCE: water wont flow into LG LX259602b ice maker

You may have a bad water valve.  The valve has 2 sections, one for the water dispenser and the other for the ice maker.  Check those connections in the back of the refrigerator.  If everything is ok, replace the water valve.

The ice maker on my Kitchenaid KBF320EVMS4 french door refrigerator stopped working. The drinking water works fine and I can hear the noise when the ice maker fills with water but no water comes in.

you can pop the cover off of the ice maker,on the module you'll see some letters,if you get a jumper wire and stick it into the T and H the ice maker should start to spin,if it doesn't the ice maker is bad, then remove the wire and stick it into the V and L,water should start to fill the ice maker,if it doesn't most likely you have a bad water valve, just get a piece of wire, strip off both ends to make a jumper wire.one more thing, check the fill cup and the fill line to see if there's any ice in there,if the water valve is bad water can drip through and freeze in the cup or fill line stopping the water from entering the ice maker,if there is melt it out with a hair dryer, also if you have to get in there with a hair dryer be careful with the heat on any plastic parts, you can damage it and don't heat the fuse on the ice maker wires,it's a black fuse built into the harness you can damage it if it gets to hot.you can go here to see your parts

My Maytag ice maker stopped working; ice on doors & draw; What do you think might be causing this?

As odd as this sounds, my Maytag MFX2570AEM stopped making ice. I could feel ice in the tray but it suddenly stopped ejecting or making more even when the bar was in the correct position.

I read many articles telling me the motor was dead, the gears for removing the ice from the tray needed to be replaced, etc. THEN, I read one person who responded that his issue was resolved with a HAIR DRYER. It turns out something about the unit had frozen due to water getting on it, etc.

Sure enough, after blowing a hair dryer into the ice maker for 5-7 minutes I replaced the ice maker drawer and in about a minute it ejected the ice and filled the trays with water again. It has been making ice ever since.

My icemaker does not make ice and the control unit flasshes twice then stops, repeats. I tried defrosting, but still no ice. What do I do?

If it has water going to the ice tray.Defrost and dry out the whole area, with a hair dryer. Some time the linkage will freeze up.When you defrost it it can stay wet and refreeze. If you are not getting water to the ice tray. Then replace the in line water filter. It is found inside the fridge.

The ice make stopped working. There is ice in the water feed tube. The ice maker is full of ice, but it is not dispensing. Ice in the storage bin was frozen together into blocks.

The icemaker in it's operation hits a microswitch to turn on a warmer in the aluminum tray that aids in extracting the ice by the rotating vanes. It may be that that part of your icemaker has failed.

Try this for a solution first. Remove all of the ice from the bin. Using a hair dryer, melt the ice in the tray and the fill tube. Be sure to warm all of the switches behind the plastic front cap in case those switches are frozen. Let the ice maker fill again and see if you have made ice. Often splashed water will freeze the rotating vanes and will not let the ice maker rotate through it's complete cycle.

Ice maker is not making ice. used hair dryer. tray fills and produces one patch and then stops again.

the danger of using a hair dryer is that it only deices what you can see,NOT the ice you cant.so defrost overnight, then dry out then restart as new.....

Leaking water in icemaker. water from icemaker leaks into freezer and freezes on freezer wall

If you are sure that it's coming from the ice maker I believe that you possibly have a leaking water control valve on the side for the ice maker on the rear of refrigerator near floor there is a dual water valve control. Many times when this happens the water will freeze in the fill tube that fills the ice maker in the rear of freezer. You can defrost the frozen water in the fill tube with a hair dryer but that will not stop the problem from coming back. When that happens water tends to at times go everywhere but the ice maker. You can test the water control valve several ways. By unplugging the side to the ice maker and if water continues to flow slowly to the ice maker then the dual water control valve will need replaced, Sea Breeze

Icemaker won't fill tray,

Was the inlet tube frozen. If so your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is probably leaking and when the water reaches the freezer it freezes, blocking the inlet tube. Replace the water inlet valve.
You can Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

Water does not fill the ice maker to make ice. water comes oout the drinking water side.

This has happened to me and probably alot of others as well. Sometimes the water freezes in the tube that is filling the tray. get a flashlight and a small srewdriver. Carefully remove the ice maker from the freezer to get to the filler hose. If you see ice present that is the problem. Remove the ice and reinstall the ice maker. This is tedious sometimes because there just isn't much room to get to the fill hose. Hope this helps.
