It will not timer-record some channels such as Channel 5-2 and 9-2. I can manually record on those channels, but when I try to record using timer programming, it won't record those channels.

It will timer-record other channels just fine, but not those channels. Back in the days when Toshiba still made DVD recorders, I called them and they said it's a bug with no solution and they offered me a refund, but I declined. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

To richie46: I checked the manual. It has a chapter on "Channel Setting", which has a procedure on "Auto Channel Scan", and I did follow those procedures to do an auto channel scan before I posted my question. Also, it has some procedures for "Adding/Deleting Channels", however it says that "adding channels is only available for the analog TV channels". Is this "adding channels" what you were referring to when you recommended that I "see if there is a provision for getting channels into the memory"? If so, then it appears that there is no way to add a digital channel into the memory, because it says you can only add analog channels. But it seems like there would be no reason to add the Channels 5-2 and 9-2 that I mentioned, because the automatic scan that I did already picked up those two channels. So I can view Channels 5-2 and 9-2, and I can manually record Channels 5-2 and 9-2. But I can't timer-record those two channels, using the "timer recording" feature, even though I can timer-record other channels just fine. So I'm not sure I understand your response to my question, because it seems like Channels 5-2 and 9-2 are in memory due to the automatic scan, and due to the fact that I'm able to view those channels, but I just can't timer-record them. Do you have any further thoughts or ideas, now that I've provided these further details? In any event, thank you for your response and I will appreciate any further thoughts you may have.

Bummer. You were correct with what I was referring to but it appears that due to some internal glitch you cannot timer record those two channels even though they are in the memory. This is the first I have ever heard of such a thing but with electronics and computers I guess I have never really seen everything - every day is a learning experience!

Toshiba makes a good product and I would stay with it and deal with this minor inconvenience, unless they are two of your main viewing channels. Then ...............

Thanks for your response. I agree that it's a good product, and that's why I turned down Toshiba's offer for a refund. And I've used it a lot over the years I've owned it and have put up with not being able to timer-record some channels, but they're not my main viewing channels so it's only been a minor inconvenience. The reason I posted the question is that this season, some of the programs I watch are switching over to the channels in question (5-2 and 9-2), so I guess what I'll do is record those shows on another VCR that I have.

If Toshiba offered you a refund due to the alleged bug, I doubt that there is a work around to the problem. If it had been a regular tuner I would have suggested that you scan all the channels to commit them to memory.

The problem basically is that those channels re not in the recorder's tuner memory. You can enter them manually but when you try to use the programming the unit will not do it since channels are not in memory. Check your manual to see if there is a provision for getting channels into the memory of the unit. Don't hold your breath.

Magnavox MDR533HF7 timer programmer records wrong channel sometimes

You have to record some channels manually and you can not use the timer. Since TV went digital the channels are not really on the channel that you see. Where I live channel 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, and so on are really on channel 35 and 45. This tuner has a hard time with these channels because they are not on the station that you see and it does not look like this will be fixed.

Timer recording will only record channel 3

Hello there,

This is most likely because the recorder is connected to a cable box. When setting the timer recording feature with a cable box as the source, you are not actually selecting the channel to record. You are selecting the recording source. The cable box sends all of the channels to the recorder using RF channel 3. In this case, the channel for recording will be whichever channel is selected on the cable box.

To help me give you a more definite answer, please can you answer the following quick questions:

1. Are you using a cable box?
2. If using a cable box, how is it connected to the recorder?
3. What is the model number of the GoVideo recorder, e.g. DVR4000?

Thanks,
BElectric

Cable users: If you have Cable TV and used Cable Box in Connecting Antenna/Cable TV to DVD/VCR using a cable box converter, you must set the channel in this step to match the cable box output channel (usually 3 or 4). Change channels on the cable box instead of the DVD/VCR

Timer programming problem

Check to see that you have not changed the default choice for input on power up of the box the "timeshift default device". If you have it set to front or rear CVBS or S-video input, it may ignore the channel choice you make when setting up the recording.

Timer recording on GoVideo VR2940

First, you need to have the cable directly input into the recorder.

If you only plug the cable box into the machine, you get what is happening now.
After splitting the cable, one side into te box and the other into the recorder, run the channel seek part of the program and it will scan all the channels available on the cable and place them in memory.

Then plug the output of the cable box into the other input on the recorder, and you get yor pay channels and upper tiers.

Your recorder is now a switching unit as well
