Why did it become very hot when battery was inserted?

I would try another battery. If it still happens the trouble is your phone. If it doesn't the trouble was the battery. That's your next step.

Ask a new question stating that a new battery did not solve the problem if the issue persists with a new battery.

Sometimes phones and the battery can over heat. This can be caused by a few things, such as playing with it/using it while charging. If you were doing that, I suggest you stop doing that from now on. Using the phone while its charging can kill the life of your cell phones battery.
